Ohio Gov. John Kasich hinted during a CNN interview that he might consider leaving the Republican Party, if party members couldn’t get it together and fix what ails.
Good. Go. Make like a Nike shoe and just do it.
As conservatives could oh-so-easily say in response to Kasich’s threat: What have you done for me lately?
Kasich, remember, was the last guy standing in the Republican Party primary against then-candidate Donald Trump. He refused to leave, even when all other candidates had conceded that Trump was the man.
And when he finally did concede?
Kasich told anyone and everyone who would listen that Trump was a disaster, Trump was an epic fail, Trump was a circus act — Trump couldn’t beat Hillary Clinton.
And when Trump did beat Hillary Clinton?
Kasich still tells anyone and everyone who listens how crappy Trump is as a president.
So when Kasich threatens to leave the Republican Party — excuse the obvious, but a natural rebuttal is this: Were you ever really in it?
Kasich is like Sen. John McCain — A Republican In Name Only, an establishment-minded politico who thinks he knows not just best, but way, way better than the rest.
He said as much, again, to Jack Tapper on “State of the Union” on Sunday.
“If the party can’t be fixed, Jake, then I’m not going to be able to support the party,” Kasich said. “Period. That’s the end of it.”
Go already — and don’t let the GOP door hit you on the way out. Kasich and his elitist mentality represent the problems with the party, not the solution. Purging him would be a favor to the GOP.
