(The Center Square) – Americans trust armed citizens more than law enforcement to stop mass shooters, according to a new poll.
Convention of States Action, along with the Trafalgar Group, released the poll Monday, which showed that 41.8% of surveyed voters “believe that an armed citizen would be their best protection if they were caught in a mass shooting event.”
Only 25.1% say local police would be their best protection while 10.3% said federal agents. About a quarter of those surveyed said “none of the above.”
The poll found that 62.2% of those surveyed “are not confident their local law enforcement and government officials could identify and and stop a violent person before they started a mass shooting.”
The survey comes on the heels of the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where law enforcement has been heavily criticized for taking more than an hour to confront the shooter inside an elementary school.
“Americans watched in horror as an active shooter was permitted to rampage through a school while the police stood outside and did absolutely nothing,” said Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States Action. “Over and over again, citizens are given the clear message that – when it comes to protecting loved ones – you’re on your own. At the same time, we’re told guns are the problem and we should give up our right to self-defense.”
The survey queried more than 1,000 likely 2022 voter July 7-10.
Meanwhile, a shooting at an Indiana shopping mall over the weekend left at least three dead and 2 wounded but was cut short when what authorities called an armed “good samaritan” killed the gunman. Other instances like these have also ended mass shootings around the country.
“We do know that someone we are calling the “Good Samaritan” was able to shoot the assailant and stop further bloodshed,” Greenwood Mayor Mark Meyers said. “This person saved lives tonight. On behalf of the city of Greenwood, I am grateful for his quick action and heroism in this situation.”
25 years ago I got my cancelled weapons permit. Not so much to protect myself, but to stop some nut from mass killing. Someone other than a no where to be found police officer has to stop the killer.
So I started carrying a .38. I thank God that I never had to pull it out of my holster.
It is NOT the law abiding citizen with a gun that one needs to be worried about. It is the criminals, the mentally deranged and the Democrat Party that the citizens need to be worried about.
I got mine back in 2018.. AND STAY Strapped, from the time i wake up, to the time i go to bed…
The Mall in Indiana was a gun free zone so the gunman thought he would have easy pickings. But one thing stopped him a good guy with a gun that he stilled carried despite the Malls gun ban. Now I’m wondering if the Mall will press charges because he had the gun in there.
These days, i wouldn’t put it past those anti-gun nuts to try..
The Mall should at least BUY Him a new box of 9mm ammo!
If i had my way, they’d offer him a job, as their new security chief.
Scruffy you are very much correct on that line, when seconds count the police are just minutes away depending on your location, for my area the sheriff is just a few hours away will add this little gem (SLUGS FOR THUGS! and the game goes on), an6 of these kids today grab a gun and think it is just a game you shoot a person hit the reset button and pow that person is alive and well, the kids think things are just a game till it happens to them.
AND since many a time, the courts have ruled, COPS DO NOT HAVE A DUTY TO protect us, WHY ANYONE would trust only IN THE COPS for their protection, is beyond stupid.
In large part due to a faster response time.
No place is safe anymore. 99% of the time when a crime involving violence occurs the Police get there in time to write their reports, take pictures and bag the bodies. With the Democrat Crime Organization and their woke minions attacking Law Enforcement on a daily basis it’s no wonder many areas are short on Officers. The NYPD once the Golsd Standard of Law Enforcement is having a record number of retirements this year. Many other departments in Democrat controlled areas are facing the same and recruitment is down to historical lows. I retired from a long career in Law Enforcement a number of years ago and if the attitude towards law officers had been like it is now by many, when I started out, I probably would have taken a different career path. But all things considered your personal safety and that of your home and family fall to you. I am never without a firearm within reach and never will be.
I forgot which show i watched the other year, but one of my favorite quotes i remember from it was “THE COPS ARE nothing more than over priced, crime scene clean up experts..”
