House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that Congress will move forward with articles of impeachment to remove President Donald Trump if the vice president doesn’t invoke the 25th Amendment.

The 25th Amendment allows for Vice President Michael Pence and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the president unfit for office. The vice president then becomes acting president.

In a televised address on Thursday, Pelosi said that Trump incited the mob that stormed the Capitol Building on Wednesday.

“The president of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America,” Pelosi said.

She described Trump as a “dangerous person,” who had committed an “act of sedition.”

Democrats and some Republicans want Trump removed before his term ends on Jan. 20 with President-elect Joseph Biden’s inauguration.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is expected to be named its new majority leader, said that Trump “should not hold office one day longer.”

“The quickest and most effective way – it can be done today – to remove this president from office would be for the vice president to immediately invoke the 25th amendment,” Schumer said. “If the vice president and the cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress should reconvene to impeach the president.”
