Facebook has been blasted for censoring conservatives but a liberal news anchor is furious at the social media giant for allowing them to publish at all.

On January 7, a day after the Capitol Building riots, Facebook dropped the outgoing president of the United States along with Twitter and Instagram.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s billionaire founder and CEO, defended de-platforming then-President Donald Trump claiming it was too risky to allow him access to the website.

One would think punishing Trump would make the Left happy but MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, who co-hosts with Joe Scarborough, ranted instead.

“The leadership at Facebook is pathetic,” she complained. “Sheryl Sandberg, Mark Zuckerberg, you guys are pathetic. You need to be shut down. Nobody needs what you have to offer. You have destroyed this country.”

The reason for her rant? Facebook failed to censor Trump sooner and Brzezinski blamed the social media site for contributing to election fraud claims, riots, and even murder.

“Perhaps there wouldn’t be people dead,” she suggested, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was ironic for the “Morning Joe” co-host to complain about Donald Trump, and in particular the social media platform he was given, since the morning show repeatedly welcomed then-candidate Trump on their program. The guest and co-hosts enjoyed a close friendship behind the scenes but hat relationship soured with Trump in the White House, and Trump went on to use Twitter to mock and ridicule the show and its hosts.

Dan Gainor of MRC TechWatch says Brzezinski is not alone in openly demanding censorship. He points out that a CNN guest this week called for cable companies such as AT&T to drop conservative news outlets Newsmax and One America News, which have grown in viewership as viewers drop Fox News.

Who was that CNN guest? According to Newsmax’s own coverage of a call to censor it, the guest was Facebook’s former chief security officer, Alex Stamos.

“We are going to have to figure out the OANN and Newsmax problem,” he told the Sunday show “Reliable Sources.” Those news outlets have “freedom of speech,” he continued, “but I’m not sure we need Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and such bringing them into tens of millions of homes.”

CNN apparently followed up on that suggestion, too. The cable network’s media reporter, Oliver Darcy, openly admitted via Twitter he was pushing the cable companies to defend allowing Newsmax and OAN to reach American living rooms with what he called “election denialism content.”

“This is emblematic of where the Hard Left is right now,” Gainor warns. “If they can’t control what is being said on an outlet, they want to shut it down.”
