It’s the latest Democratic conspiracy hoax — that President Trump will somehow cancel the November election because of the coronavirus to keep him from being thrown out of office by voters.
The far-fetched theory was promoted Thursday by none other than the Democratic Party standard bearer, Joe Biden, in a rambling statement out of his finished basement-turned TV studio. He made this bold prediction:
“Mark my words, I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.”
The former vice president added, it is “the only way he thinks he can possibly win.”
Biden made the comments during a remote fundraiser, which may explain a few things. Was it a case of Biden simply trying to over-excite his supporters and get them to donate? Or was it a case of just more nonsensical drivel coming out of his 77-year-old brain? Or both.
More on this fundraiser at Deadline.
Biden must know — or maybe he just forgot — that Trump can’t simply “kick back” the election. The president doesn’t have the power to do that. In fact the federal statute states that the election must be held on the first Tuesday in November. Only Congress, not the president, can change that date.
The House, as we know, is controlled by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. What are the odds that Pelosi will endorse a bipartisan plan to move back the election in order to possibly save lives? You know the answer to that. Pelosi will do whatever makes it easier for Dems to take back the White House.
There is another even bigger problem with this conspiracy hoax about canceling the election. Even if the Republican president was somehow able to convince Congress to move it back, Trump has to leave the Oval Office on Jan. 20, 2021, according to the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
And guess who is next in line if Trump and Vice President Mike Pence leave the White House?
You got it. Pelosi. And Trump is never going to endorse a plan that puts Pelosi in power.
Democrats have also speculated wildly that Trump, because they think he wants to be a dictator, will move to suspend the Constitution and declare martial law or some kind of emergency to postpone the election. But even that can’t happen, according to constitutional experts. The Constitution trumps martial law, the courts have ruled.
So why are Biden and other Democrats, as well as a complicit media, continuing to push this speculation about pushing back the election?
Simple. Because it makes Trump look the part of the plotting dictator more concerned about his own power than the country’s laws. It fits a media narrative that Trump botched the coronavirus response and now will postpone the election to keep his dirty hands in the Oval Office.
Forget the fact that Trump has never suggested canceling the election, and that it’s questionable that it would help him at all. Biden will keep repeating his conspiracy theory, and the media will repeat it.
In fact, the real question is whether Congress will try to push back the election, putting Pelosi in power on Jan. 20. That’s a far more likely scenario.
