The January 6th Committee continues to do its best to frame the U.S. Capitol riots as an “insurrection” – but according to one member of Congress, they’re having to lie to do it.
The House investigation of the January 6th riot has been called a communist-like “show trial” by critics. Thus far, the Democrats’ hand-picked January 6th Committee – which was formed in the summer of 2021 without Republican participation – has met eight times and presented witness after witness, all carefully vetted to push the “insurrection” narrative.
But Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) argues those efforts really haven’t moved the needle too much on public opinion. The Republican lawmaker, who has refused to work with the committee, told radio host Todd Starnes last week that the meetings have been filled with lies.
“They lied about Bernie Kerik’s travels. They lied about Barry Loudermilk, a colleague of mine. They lied about the tours he gave to constituents. They lied about Jenna Ellis’s documents,” the congressman stated.
He continued: “They lied about Eric Hersman, White House lawyer. They lied about the note written, Cassidy Hutchinson said she wrote it. Another person said, ‘no, no. I actually wrote that note.’ They lied about the Secret Service. We’ve had Secret Service come forward and say that what she testified to was not accurate. And they lied about me twice.”
The committee also played a video of Jordan on a Fox News interview about the importance and finality of January 6th:
Jordan: “The ultimate date of significance [in a presidential contest] is January 6. This is how the process works. The ultimate arbiter here, the ultimate check and balance, is the United States Congress.”
But he says what the committee intentionally left out was that the quote wasn’t Jordan’s to begin with; in fact, he was quoting a liberal Supreme Court justice:
Jordan: “Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the late justice said this: the ultimate date of significance [in a presidential contest] is January 6. This is how the process works. The ultimate arbiter here, the ultimate check and balance, is the United States Congress.”
Addressing his radio host, Jordan added: “Todd, we don’t get to see the evidence. We don’t get to sit in on the depositions. We don’t get access to the transcripts, the video, the documents they have. We don’t get to cross-examine. And so imagine how many other lies they’ve told the American people ….”
In Jordan’s opinion, the real target of the committee is former President Donald Trump.
