Anyone who thinks the so-called mainstream media are unbiased is truly kidding himself. The media are in the tank for Barack Obama. Polls have shown that journalists overwhelmingly favor Obama, and now a new report shows that Obama gets their political donations too.

Back in April, the Media Research Center compiled a great report on comments from journalists which reveal their left wing bias,

While most in the media business continue to deny the problem of liberal bias, a number of journalists have admitted that the majority of their brethren approach the news from a liberal angle. Examples:

“Are reporters biased? There is no doubt that — I’ve worked at the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and worked here at Politico. If I had to guess, if you put all of the reporters that I’ve ever worked with on truth serum, most of them vote Democratic.”
— Politico’s Jim VandeHei during C-SPAN’s coverage of the GOP primaries, March 13, 2012.

“No person with eyes in his head in 2008 could have failed to see the way that soft coverage helped to propel Obama first to the Democratic nomination and then into the White House.”
— New York Magazine political reporter John Heilemann, January 27, 2012.

“When Newsweek was owned by the Washington Post, it was predictably left-wing, but it was accurate. Under Tina Brown, it is an inaccurate and unfair left-wing propaganda machine.”
— USA Today founder Al Neuharth in his August 19, 2011 column.

Not only do we have the bias, but media companies are putting their money where their mouths are. As reported in the New York Times (yes, the New York Times), “the New York media world is staunchly Democratic.”

All the major media companies, driven largely by their Hollywood film and television businesses, have made larger contributions to President Obama than to his rival, former Gov. Mitt Romney, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit, nonpartisan Washington-based research group that publishes the Open Secrets Web site.

The center’s numbers represent donations by a company’s PAC and any employees who listed that company as their employer.

Even companies whose news outlets are often perceived as having a conservative bias have given significantly more money to Mr. Obama. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, for example, has contributed $58,825 to Mr. Obama’s campaign, compared with $2,750 to Mr. Romney. The conglomerate, which owns Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post and the 20th Century Fox studios, gave roughly the same amount to Mr. Romney’s Republican primary competitors Rick Perry and Ron Paul as it did to Mr. Romney.

Thankfully, Romney seems to be doing pretty well raising funds outside of the left-wing media conglomerates. The Times notes that “according to a Federal Election Commission report released Monday, the GOP had $186 million on hand, compared with $124 million for Democrats.”

Romney faces an uphill battle against Obama, and the media bias will be enormous. It’s simply tragic that a person can’t turn on the television and actually get a news report anymore.
