Back in the basement, Joe. It’s not safe to come out.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, grounded by the coronavirus, is now facing new questions about his role in the “Obamagate” scandal that could keep him shuttered away all summer.

Biden is reportedly one of several Obama administration officials who asked to “unmask” the identity of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn during late 2016 early 2017, when Trump was about to take power.

The list also includes then FBI Director James Comey, then CIA Director John Brennan, then Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Obama chief of staff Denis McDonough, according to a just declassified document by Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell.

Grenell released the document to GOP Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, according to a report by Fox News.

Biden is now sure to be asked about the report the next time he comes out of his cave for an interview, you’d think anyway.

The Department of Justice’s decision to dismiss charges against Flynn of lying to federal authorities has cast the case back into the 2020 election forefront, with Trump and others claiming Flynn was railroaded by former Obama administration officials.

The disclosure of names of officials, including Biden, who requested the “unmasking” of Flynn, drew outcry from Republicans who say it proves there was a conspiracy to taint Flynn and undermine President Trump.

“We now know for a fact that Vice President Biden was involved,” Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said. “And he needs to be questioned on this.”

Grassley and Johnson released a joint statement about the unmasking document and said it will help “get to the bottom” of what the Obama administration did with the Russia investigation against Flynn and Trump.

“Today we received a list of individuals who requested the unmasking of Lt. General Michael Flynn and others who received access to that information,” the statement said. “The officials listed should confirm whether they reviewed this information … why they asked for it and what they did with it, and answer many other questions that have been raised by recent revelations.”

Biden has stayed at his Wilmington, Delaware, home throughout the coronovirus crisis, and built a TV studio in his basement to do interviews. But he has not traveled or campaigned, a fact that even some Democrats are grumbling about.

These new revelations about disclosing Flynn’s name may keep Biden in the basement a lot longer. He’s never been good at answering uncomfortable questions — in fact any question can trip him up.
