President Joe Biden told the largest federation of labor unions on Tuesday that he’s working to rebuild the U.S. economy around workers – while at one point falsely declaring that families have less debt and more savings than when he took office.
The speech before the AFL-CIO convention in Philadelphia was the president’s attempt to reset the terms of the debate on the economy as his own approval ratings have slid while consumer prices – and the cost of gasoline – have surged.
‘Since I took office, with your help, families are carrying less debt nationwide. They have more savings nationwide,’ Biden said.
But despite the president’s pronouncements, data from the Federal Reserve shows that household debt has increased by over $1.5trillion since Biden took office in January 2021.

A leader never blames anyone else. Imagine that your football team hires a new coach. The team then goes 3-14, and the new coach blames the old coach. Out here in the real world, people have to take responsibility for their actions, incompetence, and pure evil.
What gets me is that the afl-cio is buying into his lies. Coulld it be that the higher ups are indeed better off at present making millions off the sales of vaccines, high gas prices, higher cost of food, etc.
I’ve heard similar words in various languages from other dictators whose plans created great hardship and suffering for the people of their country.
If by ‘changing people’s lives’ he means: older folks no longer able to afford to drive to visit their kids and grandkids or even drive into town to see one of the kids games (I heard a man talking about this at the local post office) then yes, Biden is changing people’s lives. If he means not being able to buy enough food to comfortably feed a family because the prices are close to doubled ($8.15 for a large cannister of Quaker Oats that used to be around $4) then he’s right. If he means farmers wondering how they’ll ever recoup the cost of planting seeds, fertilizing the fields, and harvesting with the price of diesel almost $6/gal and fertilizer 4x the price of last year, then he’s right he’s changing people’s lives.
I could go on, you know what I’m talking about: Fuel prices, food prices, cost of all goods going up, baby formula shortages, etc.
