Research examining the sexuality of gender-nonconforming children shows that doctors and parents who provide treatment to transition them to their unnatural preferred sex are ushering in more detrimental effects to youths’ health and well-being than benefits.
Dr. Lawremce S. Mayer and Dr. Paul R. McHugh divulged in the Sexuality and Gender report released this week that an examination of biological, psychological and social science research shows that gender-change therapy in numerous forms does America’s youth a true disservice.
“[Children] are increasingly receiving therapies that affirm their felt genders, and even hormone treatments or surgical modifications at young ages,” the doctors stated in their report that is slated to be published in The New Atlantis’ fall 2016 edition. “But the majority of children who identify as a gender that does not conform to their biological sex will no longer do so by the time they reach adulthood.”
The experts sent out the warning that adults may be inflicting irreversible damage on gender-confused kids.
“We are disturbed and alarmed by the severity and irreversibility of some interventions being publicly discussed and employed for children,” Mayer and McHugh continued.
Really such as thing as five -year-olds ‘in the wrong body?’
Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) Executive Director Regina Griggs stresses that the new Sexuality and Gender report confirms what “many of us have known and read about for years” regarding the harmful physical, emotional and social consequences of changing the sexual identity of children.
“Realignment surgery destroys healthy body parts, but genetically, you will still be the same male or female,” Griggs told LifeSiteNews. “Minors need to be taught to love and appreciate who they are as male or female, not some fictional concept that surgery can make everything happy and exciting.”
Other findings from the study point to the deleterious effects of transitioning youth from their biological sex to their preferred sex.
“The hypothesis that gender identity is an innate, fixed property of human beings that is independent of biological sex — that a person might be ‘a man trapped in a woman’s body’ or ‘a woman trapped in a man’s body’ — is not supported by scientific evidence,” the report states. “Compared to the general population, adults who have undergone sex-reassignment surgery continue to have a higher risk of experiencing poor mental health outcomes.”
The ill-effects extend all the way to serious suicidal tendencies.
“One study found that, compared to controls, sex-reassigned individuals were about five times more likely to attempt suicide and about 19 times more likely to die by suicide,” the research indicates.
Mayer and McHugh also discovered that those attempting to treat individuals experiencing gender confusion should be much more careful when dealing with youth, in particular.
“Children are a special case when addressing transgender issues,” the medical experts asserted in their report. “Only a minority of children who experience cross-gender identification will continue to do so into adolescence or adulthood.”
Bad science
In fact, contrary to much of the teachings in public schools and institutions of higher learning, treating youth to transform their sexual identity has virtually none — if any — positive effects.
Researchers also reveal in their study that contrary to the scientific evidence out there, they have witnessed a greatly “concerning” skyrocketing of the number of children who have been referred to gender dysphoria clinics for hormonal treatment over the past few years.
“This approach involves helping the children to self-identify even more with the gender label they prefer at the time,” those examining the studies explained. “One component of the gender-affirming approach has been the use of hormone treatments for adolescents in order to delay the onset of sex-typical characteristics during puberty and alleviate the feelings of dysphoria the adolescents will experience as their bodies develop sex-typical characteristics that are at odds with the gender with which they identify.”
They sent a word of caution about the permanent damage that parents and doctors can inflict on children by taking the politically correct route and moving forward with some type of gender-change therapy.
“We are disturbed and alarmed by the severity and irreversibility of some interventions being publicly discussed and employed for children,” the report went on, adding that these concerns are being examined through ongoing research. “There is relatively little evidence for the therapeutic value of these kinds of puberty-delaying treatments, but they are currently the subject of a large clinical study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.”
According to Griggs, a close examination of this latest research should be conducted by parents of children who are contemplating a change in their sexual identity. She advises parents that since children’s brains are not fully developed until they reach their mid-20s, they should use wisdom and not encourage their little ones to undergo medical treatment for a psychological issue that will likely resolve itself as they mature into young adults.
“Parents need to read this study and work to help their children love and respect who they were created to be,” Griggs concluded.
