Ilhan Omar, the Congressional Progressive Caucus whip and a member of “The Squad,” tweeted this week that she was “circulating a letter to Biden” pushing for the recurring payments.
In another tweet, the second-term congresswoman expressed support for Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts and his call for “recurring $2,000 checks.”
“As the country begins to look towards building to a better future, we need to provide those struggling and left behind with consistent reliable cash payments during this Covid-19 crisis,” Omar said in the letter, published by the Huffington Post.

And where is the money going to come from? Hey, Congressional salary is $174,0000. I vote we reduce that to $74,000 for all in Congress, to help save money for this. Then we can roll out this idea to all Govt. salaries at management level – cut them all by 60%.

Actually, if you want to “fix” Congressional Pay, perhaps it should be NO GREATER THAN the National Median Income (currently around $32,000)
If THEY want a raise, perhaps they can figure out a way for THE REST OF US to make more!
Remember, you (Congress) are SUPPOSED to be “Public Servants”, NOT our masters!
There are only 3 viable options to pay for this: 1) tax increase, 2) print money or 3) borrow/debt. Printing money causes inflation. Borrowing money eventually lowers our credit-worthiness which increases the interest rate that has to be paid for new debt and rolling over old debt. IOW, debt service becomes MUCH more expensive. We’re getting to the point where our debt is going to hurt our credit rating. We’ll have to borrow lots more just to cover our debt service. Then there will be even less money available to pass out like the left loves doing.
Our current approach (borrowing and printing money) is unsustainable and will crash at some point. That will be very ugly.

And if that happens you are going to create some inequality of outcome, and you know we can’t have that. As one who thinks that congress and everyone who works there is broken, I would be in favor of these checks, and its real easy to pay for, just eliminate all foreign aid for about 10 years, cancel the debt. to China, after all, its those monsters that put us in this situation. this last 600 dollar joke, was just that, who in the hell are they kidding. 25 million to the Kennedy center after they received 40 million earlier this year, and they are closed. 10 milion to Pakistan for gender studies, and hundreds of millions of dollars for ******** all over the globe, and pennies here, This is a truly broken system, and no one is to blame for it except the 600 odd evil people that sit in congress every day trying to figure out how to screw us.
