Mexico City, Oct 20 (EFE).- Intentional homicides in Mexico fell to 23,351 in the first three quarters of 2022, down 8.1% from the 25,406 reported over the same nine-month period of last year, the government said Thursday.

Security and Citizen Protection secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez explained in a press conference that Mexico has had a daily average of 86 intentional homicides in 2022, compared to 93 per day last year.

In September, some 2,644 homicides were recorded, down 4.69% compared to the 2,774 registered in the same month of 2021.

“Intentional homicides decreased by 13.9% (compared to its record high in 2018) and it’s the lowest (figure for) September in five years,” Rodriguez pointed out.

Mexico recorded 33,308 homicides in 2021, a drop that followed the two most violent years in Mexican history in 2019 (34,690 murder victims) and 2020 (34,554).EFE
