EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas National Guard to assist state police with what the governor calls arrests related to “the border crisis.”
Abbott on Tuesday sent a letter to Maj. Gen. Tracy R. Norris, Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard, ordering guardsmen to assist the Texas Department of Public Safety with individuals who face state charges.
“By virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, I hereby order that the Texas National Guard assist DPS in enforcing Texas law by arresting lawbreakers at the border,” Abbott wrote in his letter.
During a Border Security Summit in mid-June in Del Rio, announced that undocumented immigrants who commit state crimes such as trespassing will be subject to arrest and jail time. And as part of a disaster declaration issued in May, Abbott directed DPS to enforce all federal and state criminal laws, including criminal trespassing, smuggling, and human trafficking.
In his letter to Norris, Abbott outlined provisions in the Texas Constitution and the Texas Government Code that grant the governor the power to deploy the National Guard.
“As ‘Commander-in-Chief of the military forces of the State’ under Article IV, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution, the governor can ‘call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State,'” the governor wrote. “Section 431.111 of the Texas Government Code likewise recognizes that the governor can call on state military forces ‘to enforce state law’ and ‘to assist civil authorities in guarding [or] conveying prisoners.’ And Section 437.002 of the Texas Government Code recognizes that ‘the governor has full control and authority over all matters relating to the Texas military forces.'”
“To respond to this disaster and secure the rule of law at our Southern border, more manpower is needed – in addition to the troopers from DPS and soldiers from the Texas National Guard I have already deployed there – and DPS needs help in arresting those who are violating state law,” Abbott wrote.

Glad somebody is finally doing something about the border crisis and invasion . Should of started 6 months ago. AZ. and NM. time to step up also.
Hopefully this will be the beginning of controlling our borders from the hoard of illegals invading our country. Now if we could get some help out of the liberal democrats that control our federal government maybe things would improve in this country.
BUT what good is ‘arresting’ the illegals going to do, WHEN DPS AND INS WON’T DEPORT THEM? They just release them into OUR COMMUNITIES< often without even a letter asking them politely to show up at an INS office" sometime in the future (that 95%+ don't ever show up for)?
Hopefully Abbott will deport them and Mexican is stuck with them. I was looking at the caravan people and their appearance, body weight, clothes. Shoes, kids too. Strollers, backpacks. They don’t look like they have been traveling far, Soros foundation paying, who is making a profit off human trafficking prostitution and drugs . Democrats?
Had I been Governor of a border state, I would have had the whole National Guard seal the border, along with the police.
Why stop at the National guard when there are millions of armed and ready Texans capable of citizen’s arrests, and armed one way boat trips back to Mexico or rounded up like cattle and pushed back through any hole in the border fence. Entering the state of Texas with intent to spread COVID should be declared a crime against humanity, punishable up to and including the death penalty.
I like that suggestion. DEPUTIZE ALL Conservative citizens down there to HELP DEFEND the borders.. OR at the least LET THEM KNOW, if they shoot illegal aliens trespassing on their property, NO CHARGES will be forthcoming!
I’d go so far as to have inmates, start digging a MASSIVE DEEP AND WIDE TRENCH along the entire border… THEN USE those wall segments, to Wall up the RIVER AREAS…
While that’s being done, HAVE ARMED Hummers all over the border’s length, with FULL ORDERS TO give one warning shot and ONE warning shot only, to anyone TRYING TO cross. IF they continue, GO STRAIGHT TO SHOOT TO KILL..
Too bad the other Border States wouldn’t do the same. Babbling Biden’s either too inept or too stupid to do anything about this absolute Invasion. More than likely, his “handlers” are doing it on purpose for future votes for the dem-rat party.
