Is there any hope for our system of government? I ask the question only somewhat rhetorically. As much as we complain (especially conservatives), our legislators just don’t get it. No they are pushing forward an immigration bill that does NOTHING to stop illegal immigration. It is an overt attempt to pander for votes. It will hurt the economy, encourage more illegal behavior, and… by the way… no one has even read the bill!

First here’s something you may not know, but it will certainly come as no surprise: the immigration bill being put forward in the Senate by the so-called Gang of 8 now includes an amendment for “stimulous.” In other words, not even an issue such as immigration reform can escape our legislators’ insatiable appetite to waste our money. As reported in the Washington Examiner, the Senate immigration bill has “one big change that’s right out in the open — impossible to miss, in fact.”

The original Gang bill ended with a section designated Title IV, which was headlined REFORMS TO NON-IMMIGRANT VISA PROGRAMS. The Hoeven-Corker version of the bill added a Title V, with the headline JOBS FOR YOUTH. The measure would provide $1.5 billion in the next two years to provide jobs for Americans between the ages of 16 and 24. It was originally pushed by Democratic Sen. Bernard Sanders, who wanted to come to the aid of young workers who were “hard hit by the Wall Street-caused recession.

So, let’s get this straight…. Our Republican leaders who helped put this bill together, people like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Marco Rubio are not only pushing an amnesty bill that offers no promise of border security, they are also pushing a bill that will hurt the economy, cost jobs, and will require more taxpayer “stimulus.” Ugh! And this is all in the name of winning over the Hispanic vote. Give me a break!

Here’s a great summary of the problems of the bill. Just click on the picture for a bigger version.

The bill will grant amnesty to 11.5 million illegal aliens. This was done before, and what was the result? MORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION! The bill allows to Secretary of Homeland Security to stop any efforts to secure the border. It “authorizes” more border security years in the future, but it does not allocate any funds for these “promised” security measures.

And here’s another problem: no one has read the bill yet. Just listen to what Bill Kristol has to say about it:

And this following video is even worse, but note that Sen. Jeff Sessions acknowledges that the 1,200-page bill has not been read yet by members of the Senate.

What’s frustrating about this video is not just the questioning by Bob Schieffer, but also the answers. I wish someone would point out just how stupid these questions are. Schieffer’s line of questioning basically leads to one conclusion: It doesn’t matter if a bill is good or bad or hurts or helps the economy. A bill that panders to Hispanics should be passed, so that Hispanics will vote Republican.

As someone who is half Hispanic, I find this entire idea insulting. I guess those on the far left think everyone is stupid and the only way to get votes is to promise bad policy that gives free stuff.

As Sen. Sessions writes for USA Today, “The U.S. Senate is on the verge of delivering a crushing economic blow to you and your family.”

The wages of working Americans have been falling since 1999. But the immigration bill hurtling to a vote in the Senate would add 30 million mostly lower-skill legal immigrants over the next decade –tripling the current legal immigration rate. It would also double the number of guest workers.

The result is devastating. According to the Congressional Budget Office, “The average wage would be lower than under current law over the first dozen years,” while unemployment would be higher.

This bill is BAD! It’s bad for all AMERICANS, and it should be voted down. And ANY Republican who supports it should be thrown out of office. Period.
