There seem to be “help wanted” signs everywhere, which is not surprising considering millions of able-bodied people are admitting they’re too lazy to get up and go to work every day.
According to a Bloomberg story, which cites U.S. Census surveys, approximately 100 million Americans were not working during the month of October. Half of that figure includes retired workers, who earned the right to stay home, and six million said they were home to care for a children or to care for an elderly relative. Farther down in the survey, 6.8 million simply admitted they don’t want a job.
Rachel Greszler, a labor analyst at The Heritage Foundation, says the story of America is a story of proud people who work to provide for their families. Now that pride in work is declining.
“Work is crucial to economic growth,” she tells AFN. “But it is also fundamental to American society and to human flourishing.”
From the Jamestown settlement in 1607 to the wagon trains headed West, America was explored and conquered with bravery and strong backs, and a never-quit spirit of determination.
When the country got back to work after World War II, the “baby boomer” workforce of 75 million Americans changed the retail floor and the office cubicle, and the cities and the suburbs, for generations.
Those hard-working workers have hit retirement age but one-third of them were remaining on the job anyway, Pew Research reported in a 2019 story. Many of them are likely postponing retirement right now during the current Biden economy, when budget-busting inflation is forcing them to pay more for groceries, gas, and utilities.
How times have changed. In an NPR story from September, a TikTok video is credited with giving a name to an employee’s lazy, just-enough attitude at work: quiet quitting, which is doing the bare minimum at work to earn a paycheck.
“Workaholism is out. Coasting is in,” the story explains. “Call it the work-life balance manifesto.”
Farther down in the NPR story, it cites U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics that show “labor productivity” dropped dramatically during 2022: a 6% decrease when compared to figures from 2021. That figure is a record for labor data dating back to 1947.
Greszler says 7 million Americans who refuse to get a job and go to work are creating a terrible problem for the country.
“We’re kind of creating a society that is coddling that, and even encouraging it in some ways,” she warns. “And that’s not good for America and that’s not good for those individuals.”

“6.8 million simply admitted they don’t want a job.”,,,who make up the hard core of the Democrat party of redistributors of working people’s life force. Hunger indeed motivates which is why God designed men to first hunger, then work. These ungodly people need to get hungrier sans the social props of American guilt inducement to feed them. but these kind of hard-core loafers never seek work, just more creative ways to steal, and will turn to violence in order to get the job done, when getting elected fails. In 1608 Jamestown, Capt. John Smith ordered that “He who shall not work, shall not eat.”,,,,,which works every time, and is needed again to get America back to work before it can ever be made Great Again. Let the hunger games begin.
WHEN dems for years, have instilled the sense “WORKERS SUCK, be a welfare leech”, in the minds of SO MANY FOLK, then backed that up with incentive, after incentive, after govt handout after handout, OF COURSE FOLKS now days, are too bloody lazy.
Well, let’s thank the Biden administration for extending unemployment benefits and giving out stimulus checks during the panicdemic. H9w; we have areas of the country experimenting with guaranteed income. May as well forgive some student loans while we’re at it. Many companies found that they did not need for people to have to commute after the panicdemic—that they could work from home just as well—but evidently they aren’t working.
The wrong things are being rewarded in this country.
Then you add on top of that, folks seeing TIME AND TIME AGAIN, criminals can loot, rob, steal and keep GETTING AWAY WITH IT, folks who Do the right thing, start wondering “AM I being the stupid one, for keeping working, and Paying for everything i get”??
Some states are still handing out free money as well.
Why work when you can live off government handouts? Time for all that to stop, but then the lazies will whine and liberals can’t stand that
LET THEM WHINE.
End all entitlement programs. PERIOD.
The dropouts, the flower children, the protestors, all have left their mark on the generations they have reared who have the notion they are owed something for just being! Unfortunately the workers who have contributed have arrived at the age of retirement and will no longer be paying into the kitty from which much has been withdrawn and less and less added.
Why work when you can make a few “benefit babies” let the government provide them with food, lodging, medical and the momma can claim disability (i.e. back problems most common and hard to deny) while the so called “babies daddy” can live there without any consequences and probably collect unemployment/disability too. Not bad for doing nothing except make more “benefit babies” -aka more money. Cannot blame all this on brandon but he did make it easier and now even includes illegal invaders.
I remember one lady, who our base did a house reno for, charity wise.. She kept saying she couldn’t DO any of the work herself, due to “Back pains”. BUT two of our medics, quizzed her on exactly WHAT that pain was, where etc.. Trying to diagnose her..
Speaking with other docs too, it surprises me folks think “its hard to prove/disprove”..
