Occidental College officials say they will in investigate after a 9/11 memorial made of nearly 3,000 American flags was uprooted and thrown in the trash.

Students had placed 2, 997 flags – one for each victim of the terror attack – around the Eagle Rock campus on Saturday night. But by midnight the remembrance had been destroyed.

“Vandals crushed, snapped, and threw in the garbage every single flag. Not one was left in the ground,” read an entry on the Occidental College Republican Club Facebook page.
