If the Democrats need any more clues as to why they got blown out in the 2010 elections and why their prospects look bleak in 2012, they need look no further than a new set of polls released this week. The polling data clearly show that Barack Obama and his liberal colleagues are on the polar opposite side of the fence compared to the American people. Can’t they see the writing on the wall?

When Obama had the House and Senate on his side, he pushed forward his wildly unpopular health care program. Guess what? There was a huge revolt. There was also the wasteful stimulus program. Then there was the auto takeover. Then there was his push for raising taxes. On issue after issue, Obama has positioned himself with policies that simply run counter to traditional American values and our sense of free enterprise and capitalism.

According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, only 24% of registered voters feel that their political views are the same as Obama’s. An incredible 54% say that Obama is more liberal than they are. Want to know why Obama and the Democrats have such poor approval ratings? That simple polling number tells the entire story.

In another Rasmussen Reports poll, 44% of registered voters say they are conservative on fiscal issues. Only 14% consider themselves to be liberal on fiscal issues. Thus, when it comes to talking about spending and debt and deficits and taxes, Americans are conservative. Obama and the Democrats are liberal. See the disconnect?

Obama just doesn’t have a clue as to how the private sector works, how capitalism works, or even how jobs are created. And how does Obama respond? As the Daily Caller reports, Obama has gone back to the blame game.

A cascade of bad economic and political news knocked President Barack Obama off his game today, and prompted him to revive his 2008-style criticism of his predecessor, and also to suggest that investors, consumers and even the media are responsible for today’s stalled economy.

The blame-game rhetoric – which pollsters say is counterproductive – came during the White House’s joint press conference with Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel. “It is just very important for folks to remember how close we came to complete disaster,” he told the watching TV cameras and reporters.

“The world economy took a severe blow two and a half years ago, and in part that is because of a whole set of policy decisions that had been made, and challenges that have been unaddressed over the course of the previous decade,” he said, standing alongside Merkel, whose economy has rebounded during the last two years.

If Obama and his team continue on this course, the results from 2010 will look like small potatoes compared to what happens in 2012. You can’t reduce debt by continuing to spend. You can’t create jobs by punishing those who create them. And you can’t lead a nation that was formed based on a distrust of central power by focusing more power in Washington. It’s as simple as that.
