The students could not be denied! Remember the story of the principal who banned the singing of “God Bless the USA” at the children’s graduation ceremony? The principal says the song is still not going to be included, but the children held a rally outside the school and sang the song anyway.

On June 11, I wrote about Greta Hawkins, the principal at PS 90 elementary school in New York.

The New York Post is reporting that “Greta Hawkins, principal of PS 90, the Edna Cohen School, won’t allow kindergartners to belt out the beloved Lee Greenwood ballad, also known as “Proud to be an American,” at their moving-up ceremony.

Why? According to the NY Post, she “marched in” on a rehearsal of the program, told the teachers to pull the song from the line-up, and said, “We don’t want to offend other cultures.”

Hawkins also told the Department of Education that she found the lyrics “too grown up” for 5-year-olds. That’s interesting consider that the Justin Bieber song “Baby” was originally on the program. It contains the line, “Are we an item? Girl, quit playing.”

Now, Fox News reports that the children held a rally in which they sang “God Bless America.” According to the report, the principal was not swayed and continues to ban the song from graduation.

Unfortunately… this isn’t the full story. The children were not even able to sing their song in peace. As Todd Starnes reports, hecklers showed up and shouted during the children’s performance.

“You Republicans come go to a Republican area and do that, we don’t do that here,” one of the hecklers said. “This is ridiculous, this is sad. This is so crazy. This is sad.”

A Turner staffer can be heard off camera asking the protesters to stop – and to “let the kids sing.”

“The kids don’t even know what they’re singing,” the unidentified protester replied. “They got something you tell them to say. It’s ridiculous. It’s sad, sad, sad. You all are going to burn in hell. You all burn in hell. Shame on you. Shame on you.”

At one point, a tattooed protester cursed.

“You got a right to make noise, I got a right to make noise,” the protester said.

Isn’t there something that can be done? This principal is clearly a bad influence on the minds of these children. The protesters are even more pathetic! Any American who feels it’s wrong to sing “God Bless the USA” has a screw loose. What’s going on in this country?
