(The Center Square) – After his public break with President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, says he is now forming a new political party to challenge the long-standing two party system in the U.S.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote on X, the social media platform he owns.
Musk, who supported Trump with hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign donations during last year’s presidential campaign, was brought on to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) at the beginning to the new Trump administration.
But a very public dispute that erupted on social media led to their split, and Musk has been critical of the Trump-endorsed “one big beautiful bill” that passed the Republican-controlled Congress and was signed into law on July 4 by the president. Musk said the spending measure would “bankrupt” the U.S.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it,” Musk posted to X on Saturday, a day after launching an unscientific poll asking X followers if they were ready to break from the two-party system dominated by Republicans and Democrats. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Meh. By this time next year, if the predicted bankruptcy hasn’t materialized, neither will Musk’s party.
Musk knows that 2/3 of X users want him to form a party. But the question that matters is, how many DJT voters want another party? The fact that he is making good on everything he ran on, suggests to me that the only people complaining are a handful of never-Trumpers, and low-information Democrat voters (but I repeat myself) who only care that it could split the conservative vote—in other words, the minority who didn’t vote for him to begin with. Unless DJT fails to deliver, the only thing a Musk party will accomplish is to give moderate Democrats a new place to get away from the extreme Left. With any luck, the Leftists will become increasingly irrelevant and fade away, leaving two non-Communist parties in power; i.e., undoing the radicalism that started in the 1960s. That, alone, would be a huge improvement.
If Dude can do it, I can certainly see why Musk thinks he can do it too. Dude has another 12-18 months to make good on the real issues, promises etc… or some of the crowd may ghost. The wild bunch that attacked the capital won’t be nearly enough. We’ll see. Let’s just hope Iran can let that go.
