In a thinly veiled election-year pander for Hispanic votes, about 100 House Democrats have appealed to President Obama to open the floodgates to specialized education programs for illegal alien children.

In a letter to Mr. Obama, the Dems wail that thousands of children in the United States — and under Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — should be eligible for federal programs that assist disadvantaged students. They want the chief to “tweak” Education Department guidelines to make these students eligible for federal Trio programs, which provide special benefits to “low-income, rural, disabled or otherwise vulnerable kids,” The Hill newspaper reports.

Trouble is, these services are limited to U.S. citizens, and that’s depriving illegal aliens of “life-changing services,” according to the Democrats.

The cost? Astronomical. The unintended consequences? Enticing more illegals to flood into our country, at their peril and at ours. But why get bogged down with such things if this effort translates into a few more votes, right?
