I think I’ve now heard it all. In a recent segment on NBC’s “Today” show, some left wing commentator spoke out against Christmas, saying that “religion is what mucks the whole thing up.” Are you kidding me? She said that holidays are made “stressful” because of religion. Excuse me, but I’m pretty sure that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Right?
The commentator is Nancy Snyderman who is NBC’s medical editor. Here’s what she had to say:
Now, we can analyze her comments, but what also bugs me is all the laughter that erupts following her comments. Is this supposed to be funny? Isn’t one person on that panel shocked that she is put out by the religion of a religious holiday?
As noted in the report from the Media Research Center, this isn’t the first time Snyderman has made such an anti-religious holiday remark.
During a November 27 panel discussion on Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie wondered if Christmas was becoming too commercialized: “We ask the question, as Charlie Brown did so long ago, isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is really all about? Has it just gone crazy?”
In response, Snyderman fretted: “Well, the fact that you just said ‘Christmas,’ I think, is the hot-button item because people say ‘Happy Holidays,’ they don’t know what to say.” A puzzled Guthrie replied: “Oh, that’s a whole other story.”
Snyderman then described what she liked most about Thanksgiving: “…one of those great American holidays where there are no presents, there is no religion, and you really get to give thanks.”
This is so crazy, I don’t even know where to begin. But more and more, this is what we are inundated with by the media, by the schools, by stores and supermarkets, and just about every other public venue. It’s ok to celebrate Christmas, just as long as you don’t mention Christ? I don’t think so, and I’m sure NBC could find a medical editor who actually has a brain.
