Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and her husband earned up to $15,000 in rental income last year, records show, as she fought to cancel rent during the pandemic.
Her latest financial disclosure report submitted to the clerk of the House of Representatives states she and her husband received rental income of $5,001 to $15,000 on her “primary residence” in the city that was converted to a “two-family building.”
That primary residence, she disclosed, is worth $500,001 to $1 million. Her “spouse salary” is listed as $246,102.
Pressley could not be reached for comment after multiple attempts by the Herald Tuesday. But last year, she joined other progressive members of Congress in pushing “a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.”
That included fellow Squad member Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, that according to Yahoo News, also claimed rental income last year of $15,001 to $50,000 from a Detroit property, in her case.
Pressley tweeted last year, “We must cancel rent, extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, provide rental assistance, and offer legal representation for those at risk of eviction.”
Lewis Finfer, a longtime rental advocate with the Massachusetts Communities Action Network, said a lot of Boston homeowners help pay for their mortgages by renting out rooms or turning homes into multi-units. He praised Pressley for standing up for renters.
But more pain is coming, he added.
On Sept. 7, the extra $300 weekly federal supplement to traditional jobless benefits is set to end. That’s $1,200 a month Finfer said will hit renters hard. Plus, college students are already heading back to Boston looking for rooms to grab.
And, the CDC-mandated eviction moratorium runs out Oct. 3, if it lasts that long in the courts.
“It’s all just going to put more pressure on people. I’m not sure the $300 will be reconsidered,” Finfer added. “You’ll see some combination of people borrowing, rental assistance — or the worst-case scenario is they’ll be homeless.”
Pressley, the 7th District Democrat, was at an Environmental Justice Roundtable at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center Tuesday. Student debt, helping Haiti and Afghan refugees also filled her Twitter feed recently.
She did speak out on the “infrastructure and reconciliation bills” and how she wants them to include help with housing.
According to Fox News, Pressley and her husband have been declaring about the same amount for rental income — $5,001 to $15,000 — over the past few years.

Come on Man, they are the Elites , they can do that just ask them.
Rules for me, but not for thee…
What about rent for me but not for thee.
Certainly seems the case, web…
Not that there’s a double standard or anything.
When you’re scraping by on a six-figure Congressional salary plus gold-star benefits, you need a little supplemental income on the side.
I wonder, What HER FAIR SHARE, of the tax burden, should be, to pay for all the damn libtard IDIOTIC IDEAS they want to push… I say 90% is fair.
Liberals are hypocrites. Do as I say not as I do. The elitist devil worshippers, Tlaib and Pressley.
Why would you show a picture of her husband?
What is the message here? These people are landlords and they want the moratorium on evictions extended, probably until the elections next year??
Does that mean there is some kind of subsidy for unpaid landlords in the works in the District of Corruption? A big tax write-off in the offing? Or maybe both – govt. payments and a tax deduction?? Is that it?
I just looked up HYPOCRITE in the dictionary, and it referred me to Ayanna Pressley!
Hell, it could just as well have referred to ANY Democrat!
It should refer to EVERY DAMN democrat politician out there.. AND MANY so-called republican ones too!
What an ugly light bulb head.
That picture makes her look like a character from the movie “Coneheads” and she had dental work to change the look of her teeth.
I’d love to see her try to ‘narflel the garthunk!
