There you have it. Jon Huntsman has exited the race and thrown his support behind Mitt Romney. But in an effort to exit a little louder than he entered (or how he was at any time during his campaign), the former Utah governor has taken a parting shot at the GOP presidential race. In his speech in which he dropped out and endorsed Romney, Huntsman said, “At its core, the Republican Party is a party of ideas, but the current toxic form of our political discourse does not help our cause.”
This leads to an interesting question? Has the race degenerated? Has the discource become toxic?
Remember when George W. Bush went after John McCain in South Carolina? One can point to instance after instance in previous campaigns where there were personal attacks. So, is this year any different?
I would love it if all candidates just talked about what he or she would do in office. Of course, if another candidate has a bad record, shouldn’t the public know that as well?
Politics is a tough business. The winner of the GOP race will have to face Obama and his Chicago machine. The winner must be ready, and a tough GOP primary race is the way to do it.
