Here’s one that will make you scratch your head. We all know that as a state senator, Barack Obama supported legislation to allow babies to be killed if they were born alive following an abortion. We also know that religious resistance to Obamacare mandates involving the forced coverage of abortion, contraception, and sterilzation have been met with pressure and strong-arm tactics. Yet, when it comes to taking a simple White House tour, guess what? The unborn child is considered to be a living, breathing person.
As noted in a press release by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), an e-mail circulated by a White House staffer outlines the instructions for getting an unborn child through security for a White House tour:
“We have received a number of calls regarding how to enter security information for a baby that has not yet been born,” Shafer wrote. “Crazy as it may sound, you MUST include the baby in the overall count of guests in the tour. It’s an easy process.”
The newsletter then proceeds to spell out how “the baby’s security information should be entered” into the White House system, including such details as: “GENDER: if the parents know put that gender down if not, you can enter either M or F as we’ll ask you to update it at the time of birth.” All of the information should be updated “once, the baby is born,” the newsletter instructs.
Douglas Johnson, the legislative director for NRLC, blasted Obama for this bizarre practice, saying, “It is ironic that President Obama’s staff recognizes the existence of unborn babies for purposes of providing security within the White House — yet, there is no indication that President Obama has any problem with the fact that throughout the District of Columbia, abortion is now legal for any reason up to the moment of birth.”
Apparently, an unborn child is protected while within the White House walls, but step outside, and it’s a completely different ball game.
Johnson also poses an interesting question. According to the procedures, a person is supposed to give the White House an update once the baby is born regarding the gender of the child. What if the child is aborted? Should that be reported back as well?
States across the country have tried to pass “personhood” amendments to their state constitutions. It’s quite simple and basically states that a person is a person, whether in the womb or not. It seems this policy is in place at the White House… just not anywhere else across the country.
