In a shocking piece of honest journalism — that could have been written by Human Events News – the New York Times treated a CDC statistic with skepticism, calling it “misleading.”
Last month, the CDC released new guidelines for mask wearing outside because “less than 10 percent” of COVID-19 transmissions happened outdoors.
But, “the number is almost certainly misleading,” the piece reads.
“It appears to be based partly on a misclassification of some Covid transmission that actually took place in enclosed spaces,” it continues. “An even bigger issue is the extreme caution of CDC officials, who picked a benchmark, 10 percent, so high that nobody could reasonably dispute it.”
The piece even compares the statistic to shark attacks, saying that the percentage of virus transmission occurring outdoors is like saying sharks attack fewer than 20,000 swimmers a year: both true and deceiving.
“This isn’t just a gotcha math issue. It is an example of how the CDC is struggling to communicate effectively, and leaving many people confused about what’s truly risky,” the piece says. “CDC officials have placed such a high priority on caution that many Americans are bewildered by the agency’s long list of recommendations.”
Indeed, that is the case.
Americans have become so accustomed to fearing this virus and, in return, the CDC has become increasingly comfortable with their mounting power: what they say, goes.
At this point, even the New York Times is more reliable than the CDC and that’s saying a lot.
“All the while, the scientific evidence points to a conclusion that is much simpler than the CDC’s message: masks make a huge difference indoors and rarely matter outdoors.”

It’s really the result of generations that have never really faced any hardship. When I grew up a large percentage of older (than me) people hade lived through the Depression and WW II. They knew there was a risk to living just as generations prior had learned. As things continued life became easier as parents provided more, protected more, created a nearly risk free environment which is unnatural. All manor of pain, discomfort, disappointment, distress, hostility, divergent ideas; life was sanitary and antiseptic, if that is considered living! Now the sheel has been broken, life involves risk and few are prepared to deal with it. The biggest problem is what FDR so succenctly put it: WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF! The government has coddled the people for too long just as people have coddled each other. Now it’s time to face reality, life can be tough.
“That which does not kill you makes you Strong”, unless it is a Communist or National Socialist government party in charge of your health and healthcare.
At 84 years of age, I say, “Ho-hum, been there, done that.” Hey, kids, life has a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and a wicked breaking ball. If you miss the pitch the first time around (most of us do), get back in the box, keep your eye on the ball, and watch the contact. Moaning about your problems won’t make them go away, and covid-19 isn’t the worst challenge we’ve faced.
Let’s commend them for their good work and let them know that from here on out, it will always be expected—and appreciated.
I don’t personally see much to applaud in the article. Pointing out that the CDC (which should totally be defunded by the government) is fudging statistics by using inside numbers as if they are outside numbers is very small potatoes. And they didn’t call it what it is…a lie. Everything else is their usual fare of fake news. Americans are “so used to fearing COVID”? Not in my area…and I live in a very purple trending blue area (in an even more blue state). The ones who are afraid have gotten the shot and in a little bit they will be okay with mixing with the rest of us. The communists in government in our area have had to take draconian measures just to try and shut the economy down (measures in which law enforcement did not participate). On the other hand, Americans are on the move in increasing numbers. If they can’t trust voting in the voting booth, they will vote outside of it. And there is nothing the New York Times can do to stop it.
Not just defunded, but TOTALLY AND Utterly scorched to the ground, and everyone there given a pink slip!
Even a broken clock, is right twice a day… BUT ONE RIGHT news article, doesn’t eliminate or even come CLOSE TO leveling the field, from THOUSANDS of bad articles.
