LOS ANGELES – The sham “wife” of the California man accused of supplying guns used by the couple who killed 14 people in San Bernardino pleaded guilty on Wednesday to federal immigration fraud charges, the US Attorney’s Office said.
Russian-born Mariyah Chernykh, 26, became the second person to plead guilty to an immigration fraud scheme linked to the December 2015 massacre. The man she admittedly paid to marry her, Enrique Marquez Jr., is charged with furnishing two assault rifles used by Syed Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani-born wife, Tashfeen Malik, in the shooting rampage. They were slain by police in a gunfight afterward.
Marquez also is accused of plotting with Farook, the US born son of Pakistani immigrants, to stage similar shooting attacks in 2011 and 2012 that were never carried out.
