Rudy Giuliani, an attorney for the campaign of President Donald Trump, is scheduled to testify in person Wednesday during a Michigan legislative hearing, according to a new statement from a Michigan state lawmaker.

Michigan House Oversight Committee Chairman Matt Hall, R-Emmett Township, said Giuliani will speak during a hearing Wednesday that was not previously scheduled. As of 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, the hearing was not listed on the state legislative calendar.

The hearing would come after Michigan already certified election results showing President-elect Joe Biden won the state, a decision that has not stopped Trump and his allies from spreading misinformation about election results across the country.

“Election security and transparency are top concerns for people I represent. I have been getting thousands of emails and calls from people regarding this election. Other legislators have also. People have questions and concerns about the election process, the way it was handled and how our future elections could be impacted. Rumors and hearsay are everywhere and our committee is attempting to get to the bottom of all of it to deliver people answers they deserve,” Hall said in an emailed statement.

“We can go a long way to achieving this by going straight to the top. Mr. Giuliani believes there were many problems with how this election was conducted and has alleged that there was significant fraud in Michigan. I am glad we were able to find time to make this work with the president’s legal team. This is an opportunity for us to get definitive answers — in-person — about Mr. Giuliani’s claims and evidence, while we work to provide clarity and transparency to people who have taken issue with our state’s election system.”

At no point has Giuliani, or anyone else, presented credible evidence of widespread fraud or misconduct in Michigan. Biden earned about 154,000 more votes than Trump in the state. He has also received more than enough electoral votes to ensure the presidency.

Last week, Giuliani announced there would be hearings in Michigan and other states on the election. After the announcement, the House and Senate initially said there were no hearings involving the campaign.

On Tuesday, the Senate Oversight Committee held a hearing focused on absentee ballot counting at TCF Center in Detroit. The committee did not ask Giuliani or anyone with the Trump campaign to testify.

In the House, Hall initially said logistics prevented Giuliani from testifying in person. Hall also leads the legislative committee focused on the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is set to also meet on Wednesday.

On Dec. 14, Michigan will formally cast its 16 electoral votes for Biden. Biden will assume the presidency in late January.
