SALEM, Va. (UPI) — In one of the odder insults tossed out in a presidential campaign hardly short of them, Sen. Marco Rubio mocked Donald Trump for having “small hands.”

“You know what they say about men with small hands?” Rubio said, pausing for laughter during a rally in Salem, Va., on Sunday.

“You can’t trust them.”

Rubio had already made accusations about the Republican front-runner’s trustworthiness earlier in the day on ABC’s This Week, questioning why Trump has refused to release his tax returns. Rubio suggested it was because Trump has had business dealings with the mafia.

Rubio offered no direct evidence to support the claim, but leveled the charge against Trump, a casino developer, anyway. At a rally in Dallas on Friday, Rubio called Trump “a con artist.” Rubio also mocked Trump’s tough-guy demeanor, saying he was “the first guy who begged for Secret Service protection.”

Rubio’s turn with the insults and insinuations comes after months of Trump belittling opponents in debates and on Twitter, where his sharp elbows have become standard fare. Trump has taken to referring to Rubio in public as “Little Marco” at several recent rallies.

The comments came after last week’s latest GOP presidential debate, which devolved into an unintelligible three-way shouting match between Trump, Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. At the end of the exchange, Trump called Cruz “a basket case.”
