It’s only human nature. When people face trouble, they try to talk their way out of it. When a mistake has been made, people try to explain what happened. When there is confusion, people try to clarify the situation through rhetoric. Normally communicating is good. It helps clear the air. But, for those who like to talk and talk and talk and talk, there is a risk. It’s what I call the credibility threshold. It’s that point at which a politician has “cried wolf” one too many times, and his or her constituents have stopped listening. Barack Obama has now crossed the credibility threshold, and the more he speaks, the more he helps his opponents.

When Obama wanted to jam a nearly trillion dollar “stimulus” bill down the throats of Americans, the American people recoiled. They didn’t want it. So he made speeches and went on television. Talk, talk, talk. Because the Democrats had the numbers, they passed the bill. Of course, the economy is still in the toilet because left-wing economic policies don’t work, but Obama has continued to talk about his plan.

On health care, the American public was united in its opposition, yet Obama kept talking. Talk, talk, talk, but no listening. The Democrats passed the bill, and like expected, we are learning that costs will be higher, people will be forced to change plans, and the government will have more control than ever. What has Obama done about this? More talking.

And then there’s taxes. Faced with high unemployment, Obama wants to raise taxes on those people who actually are in a position to hire other people. Obama would prefer the government to do the hiring. The American people do not want taxes raised on any one, yet he is just talking and talking.

It is over the course of the last couple of months that Obama has crossed the credibility threshold. His plans aren’t working. The American people are frustrated, and even some Democrats in Washington are running for cover. Obama has reached the point where not only are his speeches ineffective, but they have turned him into a caricature himself. Now, when he talks about “hope and change,” the American people hear, “I want higher taxes, more debt, and more government control.”

As noted in a story on FoxNews.com, Obama was in Wisconsin on Tuesday trying to rally for the states Democrat candidates. Democrat Sen. Russ Feingold had talked about skipping the appearance with Obama, citing the work that still needed to be done in Washington. Feingold is in the battle of his life for his Senate seat, and an appearance with Obama is not really what he’s looking for.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, 41% of respondents strongly disapprove of the job Obama is doing. Only 29% strongly approve.

New polling shows that the president is playing a big role in the West Virginia Senate race. Democratic Governor Joe Manchin enjoys sky high Job Approval ratings but the race has moved to the Toss-Up category in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Balance of Power summary. Manchin’s positives are matched by negative perceptions of the president in that state. The Connecticut Senate race is also getting closer.

Even so-called “journalists” are trying to rally the Democrat base, knowing full well that Obama has done a miserable job of doing it. Just listen to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews who says that the “bad guys are gaining” in reference to Republicans

Republicans continue to lead on the Generic Congressional Ballot poll, most voters want Obama’s health care legislation repealed, and Democrats are no longer walking in lock-step with Obama. Democrats are looking for cover from the perfect storm.

The more Obama speaks, the less effective he becomes. In his rally in Wisconsin, Obama said, “We can’t let this country fall backwards because the rest of us didn’t care enough to fight.” Hmmmm…. can’t fall backwards? It seems to me like Obama is asking Americans to “stay the course.” That rhetoric didn’t work before, and it’s not going to work now. Americans want real change, and as long as Obama keeps talking, they will be reminded of the policies he has put into place: policies that the American people didn’t want. Policies that don’t work and are not in line with the American way. Obama has crossed the credibility threshold. So… keep talking and campaigning for Democrats. When you do, they have a funny knack for losing.
