What happens when the American people’s top issue is the one that the president of the United States can’t even grasp, communicate, or handle? Answer… You have a mess and an irrelevant president. Barack Obama is being tuned out by the American people because he can’t do the job he was elected to do. While he strolls around South America, concerns over the budget and the economy continue to grow.

According to a new Gallup Poll, the number one concern of Americans is the economy. Number two is federal spending and the budget deficit. When given an issue or a topic, respondents were asked if they “personally worry about this problem a great deal, a fair amount, only a little, or not at all.” Seventy-one percent said they worry about the economy a “great deal.” Sixty-four percent worried a great deal about “federal spending and the budget deficit.”

Side Note: Did you hear that all you Republican “leaders” in Washington? All of you with such vast political experience and expertise, the American people are talking to YOU! Stop trimming here and there. We need you to cut EVERYWHERE.

Gallup has been tracking these issues for about the past ten years and conducts this survey each March. However, the the categories of “federal spending and the budget deficit” as well as the “size and power of the federal government” were added this year due to the influence of the Tea Party movement.

Now, let’s see what Americans think of the job Obama is doing on their number one issue. According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, the “number of voters nationwide who give President Obama good or excellent marks for his handling of economic issues has fallen to a new low.” Only thirty-one percent give Obama passing marks on the economy. Forty-five percent rate his performance as “poor.”

And here’s the big disparity. When broken down by party affiliation, only seven percent of Republicans rate Obama’s handling of the economy as good or excellent. Twenty-six percent of those not affiliated with a major party rate Obama’s handling of the economy as good or excellent. Then, when the same question was asked to Democrats, sixty percent rated Obama as good or excellent with the economy. Are these people for real? It’s no wonder the Democrats got thrown out of office.

In a separate Rasmussen Reports poll, only “22% of Likely U.S. Voters say the country is heading in the right direction.” This marks the lowest level “since before President Obama’s inauguration in January 2009.” Is this change we can believe in?

So there you have it. Obama can’t handle America’s number one and number two issues. In fact, when you look at what’s going on in the world and at home with rising fuel prices, rising food prices, international turmoil, mounting debt, and continued deficit spending, it’s no wonder Obama has gone on another vacation.
