I’m not sure how I got on Barack Obama’s e-mail list, but I found his most recent plea for money to be most interesting. In just a few paragraphs, Obama attempted to not only strike fear into liberals because of those “evil” Republicans, but he also managed to provide a completely misleading comparison. My question is this… just how dumb does he think his supporters are?
Here’s the full e-mail for your review. Please read through it a few times so you can absorb all the jabs and implications:

I will be outspent in this re-election campaign, if things continue as they have so far.
I’m not just talking about the super PACs and anonymous outside groups — I’m talking about the Romney campaign and the Republicans themselves. Those outside groups just add even more to the underlying problem.
The Romney campaign and the Republicans have recently raised more than us, and the math isn’t hard to understand. In June, we hit a milestone of over 2.4 million donors to this campaign. Our average donation was $53, and 98 percent of our donations were less than $250. In that same period, nearly 80 percent of the money Romney and the Republicans raised came from just 6 percent of the donations it received — his campaign is being driven by a team of wealthy donors.
And, again, that’s not including the massive outside spending by super PACs and front groups funneling up to an additional billion dollars into ads trashing me, you, and everything we believe in.
We can be outspent and still win — but we can’t be outspent 10 to 1 and still win.

First, let’s start with that “anonymous outside groups” reference. Sounds pretty darn sinister to me. But it makes me wonder… With people like George Soros out there, do you think there might be a few “anonymous outside groups” who are supporting Barack Obama? He makes it sound like these ominous organizations only support Republicans.
Here’s what cracks me up. In the next paragraph, Obama writes that “the math isn’t hard to understand.” However, in his example, he gives us EXACTLY that… math that is hard to understand. Actually, he gives us an apples to oranges comparison, thus making it IMPOSSIBLE to understand.
On the Obama side, he talks about the number of donors. Then he mentions the average amount of a donation. And then he gives us this gem: “98 percent of our donations were less than $250.”
On the Romney side, Obama writes that a large portion of Romney’s fundraising haul “came from just 6 percent of the donations it received.” Then, Obama throws in a classic class warfare line, because he has absolutely no respect for his supporters, and he knows they will fall for it: “his campaign is being driven by a team of wealthy donors.”
Can you see how this so-called “comparison” makes no sense. Obama tells us one thing about his campaign, and something totally different about Romney’s and tries to make it a comparison. It’s just so crazy and misleading.
The proper comparison would have been to say, “98 percent of his donations were less than $250, but only XX percent of Romney’s were less than that amount.” Or… Obama could address the other part of his message by saying something like, “nearly 80 percent of the money Romney and the Republicans raised came from just 6 percent of the donations it received, while nearly 80 percent of our money raised came from XX percent of the donations.”
But, of course, rather than educate, Obama simply wants to mislead. I don’t know Romney’s numbers. I don’t know what percentage of his donations are $250 or less. But the point is that Obama doesn’t want to make that comparison. He trusts that his audience won’t understand what he is saying.
Please forward this column to your friends, so they can analyze it for themselves. It is rhetoric like Obama’s that people need to watch out for. But that’s just it… with a record of high unemployment, massive spending, huge debt, class warfare, and an assault on American values and ingenuity, the last thing Obama wants to deal with are the facts.
