The turn of events over the last day is certainly tragic. Four Americans lost their lives in disgusting attacks by radical Islamists. What’s equally disgusting and infuriating (at least for me) is the effort Barack Obama and his team — including those in the media — are going to in order to put the focus on why these radicals pounced and less on what they actually did.
Before you read further, I apologize in advance for the analogy that I’m about to make. However, when this story broke and I saw the responses from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Barack Obama himself, and the angle that journalists were taking, the first thing that popped into my head what I call the “woman in the short skirt” scenario.
We’ve all heard it before…. A woman is viciously attacked and raped by some despicable excuse for a human being. Some people come forward and denounce the attack. They rightfully state that what the attacker did was wrong, illegal, outrageous, evil (or whatever adjective you wish to use). But then, there is a discussion of what the woman was wearing… her provocative blouse or her short skirt. The message that is sent is that yes, what the rapist did was wrong, but maybe, you might want to… ummmm…. errrr… watch what you wear next time.
NO! WRONG!
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!
A rape is a rape. Period, end of story.
This is EXACTLY what is going on here! Americans were killed… bodies were paraded around like trophies. Outrage was expressed, but there is the message being put out there that we brought this upon ourselves. WRONG!
Prior to the attack on U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Obama’s diplomatic officials issued the following statement:
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
Note that according to a timeline of events, this statement was issued before the embassy was stormed, but they had to know it was coming. Why else issue an official statement?
But in that statement, did it call for no violence? No. Did it caution people to respect property and sovereign U.S. territory? No. It was nothing except an apology. But an apology for what?
Later, the same embassy didn’t issue another lengthy statement about the violence that was occurring. There was just a twitter post which read, “Of course we condemn breaches of our compound.” Radical Muslims are scaling the walls of the U.S. Embassy, and we are apologizing because someone made a Mel Brooks-style video making fun of Mohammad? How many times has that been done in reference to Jesus or Christianity?
But we move on… Then came the acts of violence in Libya where U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others were killed. Barack Obama issued a statement containing the following:
I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.
I have directed my Administration to provide all necessary resources to support the security of our personnel in Libya, and to increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe. While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.
So, we have Obama coming out and denouncing the “outrageous attack.” He also states, “we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.” No where in the rest of the statement (and there are two other paragraphs) does he mention the attackers or that America will not sit still for this. He certainly doesn’t call it a terrorist act.
But he does throw this part out there for all to read: “While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others…”
It’s just one sentence, but again, it causes us to think that hmmmm… maybe these savages had a point…. maybe they had a reason to resort to violence… and it’s only the level of violence that is wrong.
The media have piled on this as well. There is not a report out there on any of the network or cable news outlets that doesn’t mention that these acts of violence are the direct result of a stupid video on YouTube. Just the idea is completely ridiculous!
As was reported earlier today on GOPUSA, it’s becoming more and more apparent that these attacks were NOT the result of “outrage” over a video, but rather planned and coordinated attacks. And Barack Obama and the media are feeding this whole idea that somehow America kinda sorta deserved the outrage.
WRONG!
Killing is killing. Period. If someone wants to make a stupid video, guess what? Don’t watch it! But to think that violence erupting in now three different countries is somehow the result of a YouTube video is nuts, and it is not the point. These radical muslims are killing Americans! That’s the point. End of story.
