Everybody knows that Newsweek is a left-wing rag that is on the verge of going under. But one would think they would at least be original in their attacks. As it turns out, their latest “news” feature is a recycled hit piece that they first used against President George H. W. Bush. That’s right… The so-called “wimp factor” is back again.

As reported by BuzzFeed.com, the latest cover of Newsweek magazine shows a picture of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The headline reads, “Romney: The Wimp Factor” The subheadline reads, “Is he just too insecure to be president?”

Back in 1987, Newsweek’s cover read, “Fighting the ‘Wimp Factor.'” In the feature story, Bush is described as having a “potentially crippling handicap.” What is it, you ask? As the Newsweek author writes, it is “a perception that he isn’t strong enough or tough enough for the challenges of the Oval Office. That he is, in a single mean word, a wimp.”

The label has left Bush’s friends and family pained and perplexed. “He’s been reduced to a cartoon,” fumes son Jeb. (Literally. Last week the “Doonesbury” strip portrayed voters matter-of-factly describing Bush as a wimp.) In campaign that is supposedly putting a premium on character, Bush’s admirers ask, doesn’t it matter that he is a war hero, that he is decentand honorable, that he has bounced back from personal and political adversity?

Now, fast forward to 2012, and Newsweek is doing the same thing. The intro paragraph of the feature story on Mitt Romney reads, “Dodging reporters, fearing his base, hiding his taxes–is Mitt Romney just too insecure to be president? In Newsweek, Michael Tomasky surveys a history of presidential manliness and asks just where Mitt would fit amid the studly swagger of Dubya and Reagan.”

Give me a break. Dodging reporters and hiding taxes? Come on! Romney does interview after interview. He has released his tax records. Where he has drawn the line is at the simple fact that no matter what he releases, the left just ask for more and then says, “Well what are you hiding?” Romney isn’t being a wimp… he’s being smart.

Here’s an excerpt from the feature by Tomasky:

He’s kind of lame, and he’s really … annoying. He keeps saying these … things, these incredibly off-key things. Then he apologizes immediately–with all the sincerity of a hostage. Or maybe he doesn’t: sometimes he whines about the subsequent attacks on him. But the one thing he never does? Man up, double down, take his lumps.

And this is objective journalism?

Here’s Romney’s response:

What’s amazing is that Newsweek continues to publish the same left-wing garbage over and over again, and then they wonder why their circulation is dropping like a rock?

In a story covered by Reuters, we learn that the corporation which owns Newsweek is considering stopping the presses and moving the publication to online only.

“Newsweek is not necessarily a distraction for IAC management, though investors may get perturbed about it not being profitable and weighing on the company’s bottom line,” said Kerry Rice, an analyst with Needham & Co.

So… as the magazine continues to tank, it continues to spew its propaganda. These are exactly the publications that sit on coffee tables in waiting rooms across the country, just waiting to be read as “information” or “unbiased reporting.” I’m pretty sure those days are gone for good.
