The story reported yesterday regarding the USDA official who said she didn’t help a white farmer with the “full force” of her office has taken a dramatic turn. First, the NAACP condemned her comments and called for her resignation. Now, after the organization produces the full video of her speech, they are changing their tune. It appears that even though Shirley Sherrod made the comments at an NAACP function and that the full video was in NAACP possession, that they didn’t actually review the material before jumping on the bandwagon. And now, they are blaming conservative news outlets for being “snookered.”

Ok, here’s the story… conservative activist Andrew Breitbart received a video showing USDA official Shirley Sherrod giving a speech at an NAACP event. That clip of her speech can be seen here:

As noted in a report on FoxNews.com, Brietbart “said he decided to post it on his website as an example of hypocrisy at the NAACP, which recently condemned racism within the conservative Tea Party movement.” After the story broke, the NAACP quickly released a statement condemning Sherrod’s remarks. As noted in the FoxNews.com story, “NAACP CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous originally released a statement calling Sherrod’s comments ‘shameful’ and saying the group was ‘appalled by her actions.'”

It turns out the NAACP doesn’t even know what’s going on within it’s own organization. After releasing the statement denouncing Sherrod’s comments, the NAACP found the full video of her remarks. It’s posted here:

In the full speech, Sherrod goes on to say that she realized that the problems faced by farmers go beyond race and that she needed to help all people.

Again… this was an NAACP event, and the full video was released by the NAACP. One would think that when the story broke that they would actually review the full video BEFORE issuing a statement, right? Well, not exactly. Perhaps they were feeling the effects of their recent resolution which blasted the Tea Party for being racist and they felt that they needed to kick Sherrod in the pants. But after looking at the video, the NAACP released a new statement calling for a review of the situation, and then guess what they did? They blamed conservative media.

“With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias,” NAACP CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous said.

“Having reviewed the full tape, spoken to Ms. Sherrod, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans.”

Ok, let’s get this straight… the NAACP holds a convention and passes a resolution saying that the Tea Party movement is racist. They do this in the midst of testimony that the Obama administration is using racial bias in their enforcement of voting rights laws. But the NAACP is silent on that. Then, when the first Sherrod clip is released, they jump on the bandwagon and denounce her, even though they have the FULL VIDEO and could have reviewed it first before making a statement. Then… they retract their statement and blame Fox News.

Jeff Dunetz goes into detail on Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com site on just how ridiculous the NAACP is. It’s no wonder that nobody listens to them anymore.
