EL RENO — A man police say attacked two people with a machete nearly severed the hands of one of his victims before fleeing Wednesday night with a child and her mother.
Police are looking for Arcenio De Jesus, 39, who is originally from Guatemala. Mabel Lopez, 8, and her mother, Miria Lopez-Rodriguez, 33, may be with De Jesus in a green 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with Oklahoma license plate 689-LHD.
Investigators think De Jesus has fled the state and might be in Texas. Authorities there have been notified.
Charges have been presented to the Canadian County district attorneys office, local police confirmed in a Thursday afternoon news release, and a warrant for De Jesus’ arrest was issued. He faces two assault with a deadly weapon complaints.
Luciano Salazar, 44, of El Reno, suffered cuts to his right hand, his neck and his head, El Reno Police Chief Ken Brown said.
Juan Carlos Rangel-Fiscal, 32, also suffered cuts to his face, hands and arms, and his hands were nearly severed, according to a police report. A machete was found near the scene of the attack, which happened about 11 p.m. Wednesday at 221 E Elm St.
Police found Salazar at a nearby store, bleeding heavily. He pointed to the house and told officers, “he is crazy,” according to a police report. Rangel-Fiscal was found in the back yard of the house.
Salazar and Rangel-Fiscal were flown to an Oklahoma City hospital where they were in critical condition early Thursday, police said.
Brown said the motivation behind the attack is unclear. He said all five people involved lived in the house on Elm Street.
The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety issued an Amber alert Thursday morning for Mabel Lopez.
