DENVER (UPI) — Coloradans can now begin the process of registering to vote by sending a text message that will return them a link to the state’s online voter registration page.
In 2010, Colorado became the first state to allow fully online voter registration. Now, voters can text “Colorado” or “CO” to 2VOTE (28683). An automated response will send them a link to the state’s online voter registration page, which they can complete using a smartphone, tablet or computer.
“It’s one-stop shopping for all the elections information anyone would need,” Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams said. “In today’s on-demand society, we’re staying one step ahead addressing the needs of millennials, Gen-Xers and anyone who wants information immediately.”
Voters can also use the online tool to update their address, change party affiliation, view a sample ballot or check the status of an early voting ballot to see if it has been received.
