Most of the time, Bob Goosmann’s Facebook page is pretty innocuous. It’s mostly filled with weather reports — he’s a meteorologist, after all, known for his work with KTVT/Channel 11, KDAF/Channel 33 and, until this week, NewsRadio KRLD/1080 AM, where he was chief meteorologist.
But this week, he went political. And that has led to his resignation from KRLD.
On Tuesday, nine mothers of black children who died from gun violence or after contact with police spoke at the Democratic National Convention. They included the mothers of Sandra Bland, who died in a Texas jail after a traffic stop, and Trayvon Martin, who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer.
“As many of you know, I have not posted much about politics,” Goosmann wrote “The DNC parading the mothers of slain thugs on their stage has made me furious.”
It appears that San Antonio Express-News website mySA.com was the first to report Goosmann’s resignation. Asked about the departure by DFW.com, Lori Conrad, director of communications for CBS’ DFW radio and television stations, sent a statement that said simply, “Bob Goosmann resigned his position as chief meteorologist. His resignation is effective immediately.”
Paul Mann, KRLD’s news and program director, confirmed Goosmann’s resignation to mySA.com, but told the website that “he could not ‘say anything more than that,’ including the reason for his resignation.”
According to mySA.com, Twitter user Torraine Walker tweeted a screenshot of Goosmann’s Facebook page, leading to an Internet outcry. She also tweeted to KRLD: “.@KRLD is @KRLDGoosmannWX your employee? #DemsinPhilly.”

Walker, an Atlanta-based writer and blogger, did not get a response from KRLD (and he pressed for one). Walker’s initial tweet was retweeted 274 times. One of the people who weighed in was TV One host Roland Martin, a former Star-Telegram reporter.
“And yes @KRLDGoosmannWX,” tweeted Martin, who has 401,000 Twitter followers. “I called the @KRLD GM & news director. I want you to explain calling all of these killed kids ‘slain thugs.’ ”

Goosmann, for his part, says he doesn’t see anything racial about the post.
“It was frustration that I believe the DNC Party will do anything, like using these mothers, to garner votes,” he said in a Facebook email to DFW.com. “Some have said the word ‘thug’ is a racial term. It means a violent person, as in a criminal. It does not mention color. Anyone can become a thug. If some want to make this statement out to be something else, I cannot control that.”
