Potential 2020 candidate Joseph R. Biden reportedly charged a $150,000 fee and demanded angel hair pomodoro and raspberry sorbet at a recent speaking gig in Florida.
The Sun-Sentinel reported Monday that the contract and rider for the Jan. 28 event, which were first obtained and distributed by the nonprofit MapLight, stipulated that Mr. Biden and staff be provided with angel hair pomodoro, caprese salad and raspberry sorbet with biscotti upon arrival at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Biden, who was represented by the mega talent Creative Artists Agency, was paid a $150,000 fee for his participation in a 90-minute moderated discussion and Q&A session, followed by a VIP “meet & greet,” the Sun-Sentinel reported.
According to the contract, the questions asked onstage by Broward Center CEO Kelley Shanley had to be submitted to Mr. Biden’s team two weeks in advance and that the audience questions also had to be submitted ahead of time.
The rider required three dressing rooms for Mr. Biden and his staff and they were to be stocked with mixed nuts, fresh fruit, bottled water, Coke Zero, regular Coke, orange Gatorade and black coffee.
Mr. Biden’s dressing room was to be labeled “VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN,” the contract said.
MapLight, which first obtained the contract, is described as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that exposes the influence of money in politics.
MapLight reporter Andrew Perez, who tweeted the documents, appeared to take issue with Mr. Biden accepting such large fees while mulling a presidential run.
