Fox News’ official Twitter account hasn’t tweeted in four days, signaling a boycott against the social networking site for its handling of leftist activists doxing Fox prime-time anchor Tucker Carlson, according to several reports.
In an internal memo last week obtained by Business Insider, Fox News managing editor Greg Wilson instructed the entire digital team to “please refrain from tweeting out our content from either section accounts or your own accounts until further notice.”
The news comes amid reports by Tribune Media content manager Scott Gustin executives from “the highest level” at Fox News order a company blackout on Twitter as a form of protest for the site’s handling of leftist activists publishing Mr. Carlson’s address.
Mr. Carlson’s home was recently targeted by antifa activists with the group Smash Racism DC in a confrontation that is being investigated by D.C. police as a politically motivated hate crime. Videos of the incident posted by the group were deleted by Twitter, but tweets of Mr. Carlson’s personal information remained active for some time, Mr. Gustin said.
“Source indicated Fox will remain silent until Twitter removes the tweets and apologizes for mishandling the situation,” Mr. Gustin tweeted.
Fox News sources confirmed to both Mediaite and The Hill that the Twitter blackout was directly in response to the site’s treatment of Mr. Carlson.
According to The Hill, Fox News’ official Twitter account has tweeted an average of more than 100 times per day. Its last tweet was Thursday. Fox Business Network’s last tweet was Friday.
