PALO ALTO — “We are officially turning off this campaign,” the organizer, Team Christine Blasey Ford, wrote in an update on a GoFundMe campaign entitled “Help Christine Blasey Ford.”
“A statement of gratitude from the family will be forthcoming in the next 48 hours with a fuller explanation, but in the meantime, do keep your comments coming. I am sharing them with her.”
Over a period of 10 days, 11,581 people raised $528,105, according to the campaign.
The organizer said all of the money is going to Ford’s family to help pay for security and other personal expenses they have incurred since she agreed to testify about her sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Death threats and other harassment has driven the family from their home in Palo Alto.
In an emotional, hours-long hearing Thursday, Ford told the Senate Judiciary Committee she was “100 percent certain” Kavanaugh had assaulted her at a party more than 30 years ago, when they were both in high school. He angrily denied the allegations.
Although the campaign is no longer accepting donations, the organizer encouraged people to support related causes.
“Thank you for your support,” the organizer wrote. “Please continue to support great causes that help women and others speak out and stay strong!”
