Bill Clinton is attempting to clarify his remarks but the former president remains in the headlines for criticizing ObamaCare.
During an appearance on the campaign trail, he acknowledged problems in the Affordable Care Act, in particular skyrocketing premiums and lousy coverage.
“You have this crazy system,” Clinton told a crowd, “where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care. And then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half.”
He went on to call that situation “the craziest thing in the world.”
The Left predictably tried to play damage control.
Huffington Post reporter Jeffrey Young urged readers to “calm down,” suggesting that Bill Clinton did not call ObamaCare terrible. It was more like fumbling a sales pitch for Hillary Clinton’s health care agenda, he wrote.
“It’s not exactly clear to me what argument (Clinton) was making,” Josh Earnest, the White House spokesman, said of the remarks.
But the complaint was very clear, says Devon Herrick with the National Center for Policy Analysis.
“Bill Clinton is right and Hillary should listen to him,” Herrick tells OneNewsNow. “The Affordable Care Act or Obamacare is the craziest thing in the world.”
Just as the former president observed, Herrick says, co-ops have closed, premiums continue to rise, and people have experienced problems with their coverage.
“Democrats are beginning to talk about changing ObamaCare to fix what they acknowledge are growing problems in the law’s insurance marketplaces,” The Hill, a Capital Hill news website,reported in a Sep. 22 story.
The story went on state that Democrats are “expressing hope” that Republicans will work with them to address issues that include premium hikes and insurers dropping out.
Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act without a single GOP vote and later claimed their opposition was a racist attempt to hurt President Obama.
Hillary Clinton’s plan for health care, meanwhile, promises to defend and expand the Affordable Care Act – the same controversial law her husband criticized.
“I’ve done some analysis today comparing her proposal with Donald Trump (and) it’s like Hillary Clinton is doubling down on ObamaCare,” says Herrick. “She would allow individuals age 55 to 64 to buy into Medicare.”
People currently in Medicare are already having a hard time finding doctors, he says, so adding more people into the government program won’t work.
