In the face of rife persecution and Beijing’s increased crackdown on churches, Chinese Christians are projected to number upwards of 300 million by 2030 – constituting a movement that is bringing Chinese President Xi Jinping more and more unrest.

Ron Boyd-MacMillan, the strategic research director of Open Doors USA, tells the British website Express UK that the predicted growth of the Church “bothers” the Chinese leadership to the point of being scared that “they’ll have to share power.”

Escalating hard times

Boyd-MacMillan credits the rising numbers for Jinping’s ramped-up attack on Christians nationwide – which is predicted to only get worse – especially taking into consideration that Open Doors’ World Watch List ranks China as #17 of 50 when it comes to countries where Christian persecution is the worst.

“We think the evidence as to why the Chinese Church is so targeted, is that the leaders are scared of the size of the Church and the growth of the Church, and if it grows at the rate that it has done since 1980 – and that’s about between 7% and 8% a year – then you’re looking at a group of people that will be 300 million strong, nearly by 2030,” the Christian ministry leader apprised.

“And, you know, the Chinese leadership, they really do long-term planning – I mean, their economic plan goes to 2049 – so this bothers them … because I think if the Church continues to grow like that, then they’ll have to share power.”

As part of the plan to diminish the Church’s influence, the atheistic government is working to dilute its beliefs.

“The policy of ‘Sinicizing’ the Church – or merging it with Chinese identity – is being implemented across the country as the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] relies strongly on Chinese cultural identity to stay in power by limiting whatever it perceives as a threat to its control on society,” The Christian Post (CP) reports.

“Churches are being monitored and closed down across the country, whether they are underground or part of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement – the officially sanctioned Protestant Church in China.”

Sinicizing, monitoring of churches, and banning online Bible sales isn’t enough for communist China to try to maintain ultimate control; and in a fashion similar to the U.S. government, it is using the coronavirus pandemic – that it started and spread – to assume an even greater power grab.

“China also uses high-tech surveillance to oppress and monitor believers,” CP adds. “Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens have been forced to hand over their personal details to the CCP – allowing government officials to increase their surveillance campaign.”

Persecution apparently doesn’t bother Biden

In addition to persecuting Christians, communist China has targeted Uyghur Muslims by incarcerating them in mass internment and forced labor camps, with the CCP administering forced sterilization to many of them.

These atrocities were repeatedly condemned by former President Donald Trump, whose outgoing administration brought it into the light again before President Joe Biden was inaugurated. However, the pro-China Democrat – who reportedly, along with his son and fellow Party members, have lucrative deals with the country – had his administration officials quickly remove the following statement:

“After careful examination of the available facts, I have determined that since at least March 2017, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), under the direction and control of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), has committed crimes against humanity against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other members of ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang,” former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated on Jan. 19, according to CP.

When asked on Friday if the Biden administration would keep the former Trump administration’s official declaration condemning China for its Uyghur genocide, White House press secretary Jen Psaki refused to answer. At a press briefing, she later informed reporters she would “check” to see what kind of policy the Biden administration will adopt concerning China’s atrocities, according to RealClearPolitics.
