Welcome to the World of Tax and Spend

Posted By Bobby Eberle On February 2, 2010 at 9:16 am

There are many of us, myself included, who forecast the end of the Republican Revolution. The writing was on the wall. Yes, there was corruption and pandering and other nastiness of Washington that began to wear thin on the American public. But more than any of that, the item that showed conservatives that the days of Republican control would soon be over was spending. Big government spending.

Welcome to hope and change. A new era. A "transformed" America. In Obama's America, not only does the spending increase at record levels, but the taxes are coming... like a snowball rolling downhill. With his new budget proposal, Obama picks up where he left off after his first year, and the losers are the American people.

As reported in the AP story on GOPUSA, "President Barack Obama urged Congress on Monday to quickly approve a huge new shot of spending for recession relief and job creation, part of a record $3.8 trillion budget that would boost the deficit beyond any in the nation's history while only slowly beginning to put Americans back to work."

The budget paints a remarkably dire picture of a federal government that will have to borrow one-third of what it spends next year as it runs a deficit that still would total some $1.3 trillion.

Obama's deficit salve mixed nearly $1 trillion in tax increases on higher-income people with $250 billion in savings over a decade from a partial freeze on domestic programs. But popular benefit programs like Medicare would remain untouched.

I've never seen a person get economics more backward than Obama. He should be impeached immediately for cause on the grounds that he's incompetent. One-third of next year's spending will be with borrowed money? Raise your hand if you think that's insane.

Of course, there's a few big differences between the spending that cost Republicans control of Washington and what Obama and the congressional Democrats are doing. First, this spending is unprecedented. It's simply crazy. Second, with the spending comes taxes... lots and lots of taxes.

As reported by FOXNews.com, Obama's budget looks for $1.1 trillion in tax hikes. Think about it. Unemployment is up... way up. The economy is struggling. And what does Obama propose? He's going to tax the people who actually create jobs and pull more hard-earned money out of our pockets and into the socialist programs that he deems worthy.

Remember the tax credit Obama touted in his State of the Union address? The one that was supposed to help small businesses? According to the news report:

The budget proposal released Monday would extend Obama's signature Making Work Pay tax credit -- $400 for individuals, $800 for a couple filing jointly -- through 2011. But it would also impose nearly $1 trillion in higher taxes on couples making more than $250,000 and individuals making more than $200,000 by not renewing tax cuts enacted under former President George W. Bush. Obama would extend Bush-era tax cuts for families and individuals making less.

Even Obama's "Making Work Pay" will sunset after one year. Thus, taxes on the middle class will go up as well. As noted in The Hill, "That's a switch from last year, when Obama's budget called for making the tax credit permanent. The cut costs the federal government about $63 billion in annual revenue while putting up to $400 in the pockets of workers making less than $95,000. It was approved for the first time in last year's $787 billion stimulus package."

Fortunately, Republicans are fighting back, and I can only pray that they will not back down. The Associated Press quotes Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) as saying, "As if record deficits weren't enough, President Obama's budget still includes major tax increases that will hit our fragile economy like a brick wall."

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) added, "The tax increases in the budget dwarf the tax relief. Everyone should be intellectually honest about that."

You can't create real jobs by taking more money from the people who create jobs. Cut taxes, cut spending, and return more control to the American people. That's the message that was sent in the last few elections. That's the message being sent by Tea Party activists across the country. Is anyone listening???
