It's simply unbelievable what the Democrats are doing in Washington. Do they really have that little respect for the American people? By a margin of 217-212, the House of Representatives voted to raise the federal debt limit by $1.9 trillion.

This vote, coupled with the Senate's 60-40 vote last month to do the same, the overall debt ceiling will rise to $14.3 trillion. This is the highest amount of debt the United States has ever carried! Just look at Obama's budget that he just sent to Congress. A full one-third of it will be paid for with funds we don't have!

As noted in the AP story on GOPUSA, every Republican in the U.S. House voted against the measure to raise the debt limit. The Republicans were joined by 37 Democrats. However, the remaining 217 Democrats voted to put our country further into debt, which will handcuff our economy and add to the growing financial burden that generations of Americans will have to pay.

The federal government is simply doing too many things that it was never intended to do, and most people don't even realize the extent or nature of the federal budget. As noted in a new Rasmussen Reports poll, just 35% of people realize that most federal spending goes to national defense, social security, and Medicare.

"These figures highlight a massive failure of leadership from both Republicans and Democrats among the nation's political elite," says Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports. "Given the amount of political chatter about the budget in recent years, it is almost beyond comprehension that neither party has seen fit to highlight the basics so that the American people can make reasoned choices on the fundamental issues before them."

So, spending on defense, social security, and Medicare represent over half of federal spending. Now, let's look at the revenue side. For fiscal year 2009, 98% of all federal revenue went to defense, Social Security, Medicare, and interest on the federal debt. All these other programs were paid with borrowed money!

First of all, if we don't have enough money to pay for programs, then cut the programs. Every American has to live within a budget. We are cautioned over and over and over again on the dangers of going into debt. Yet, our so-called leaders in Washington spend and spend and spend as if it were Monopoly money, and not our money... all with the goal of adding one more pet project or creating a program that will ensure reelection or increased government control.

Second, it's not the role of the federal government to get into all these programs! Defense yes, but most other things, NO!

The American people have already expressed frustration, and their voices are getting louder. According to a story on FOXNews.com, a new Fox News poll shows that "54 percent of voters say the deficit makes them feel worried, while 32 percent say they feel angry." Only 8 percent of respondents are "okay" with "new estimates that have the federal deficit growing to over $1.5 trillion dollars."

As another measure of hope that the American people are catching on, "47 percent [of voters] think President Obama's federal spending freeze proposal is just a gimmick that won't really help."

In the same poll, 84 percent agreed that "the Founding Fathers would be unhappy with the way things are going in Washington these days."

So, people are concerned about all the debt, they keep losing jobs, and Washington is voting for even more debt. The solution for Obama and the Democrats, of course, is to raise taxes. They are proposing to raise taxes on the top two income brackets. The people in these brackets are often the ones who HIRE people. Does anyone really think that hiring will improve if taxes go up? How does taking more money out of the economy help the economy? All it does is put more power and control in the hands of Obama and the Democrats so that they can "create" a job that they deem is worthy. Isn't it better to have real companies create real jobs that aren't paid for by taxpayers???

I congratulate the Republicans in Congress for standing united on this important issue. Just as important, the Republicans must get the message out as to what the Democrats are doing. The Democrats voted America into more debt. Plain and simple. Now, Republican leaders... get a clue, get the message out, and show the American people that you have a better plan.

Perhaps you've read that the poor in America have a higher standard of living than the *average" (not the poor, but the AVERAGE) European. Can you imagine how this must be so depressing to average Europeans? And it's ALL OUR FAULT!

Now, if we were to spend ourselves into such a mess that OUR middle class were at parity with Europe's middle class, wouldn't that tend to raise the "self esteem" of the Europeans? (Self esteem is one of those essential items such that anything that one might have to esteem about oneself is simply unnecessary.)

And isn't that what we as Americans REALLY want? To impoverish ourselves through devastating spending programs that level us (downward) with the Europeans? (Stock investors see this coming: consistently red numbers on the bottom line are hard to dismiss.) After all, a lot of Americans have European ancestors (who may have left whatever motherland/fatherland to come to America for religious freedom, but the "progressives" have done a damn' fine job of telling us just how ridiculous being religious is, so this will help OUR self-esteem as well; hurray for our side!), so why shouldn't we destroy our economy, throwing off the shackles of religion, if that's what it takes to put us on equal footing with not only Europe, but perhaps the Mid East, Africa, and so on? Is this not the worthiest of goals?

So Obama, a halfro-American, like a Black Moses (if light skinned), is here to lead us to parity with our fellow citizens in the world. Stand up and be counted? Nein, nein, nein, nein! We must sit down and shut up! Why? Because we have been taught since youth to do as we are told. Now our Fearless Leader has told us our duty: get out of the way and shut up! Surely we Rush to obey.

Can't we simply forget all this talk about the Founders and the Constitution (which is basically flawed because it doesn't cover "positive" requirements regarding redistributive justice, ie, you make money, the government takes it, then sees that those who don't make it... get it, since they're poor and deserve it more than you do; surely this is self-evident), so that we can progressively march, much like lemmings (an inspiration to us all), into a much preferable global community under the brilliant and compassionate direction of the United Nations?

I'm just dying to have the UN in charge of the whole world. Then again, I'm dying for a cigarette... but I'm trying to quit. When two cartons of our favorite brands edged up WAY too close to a hundred bucks, my wife and I decided that we could save this money, perhaps to make campaign contributions to progressive politicians later this year.

Then again, maybe not. I think one still has the right to make a personal decision in such things. But it's probably a wrong right.

Who is John Galt?

We have not had enough money for over 40 yrs (1969 was last time we didn't have a deficit). The producers need to take back the country from the non producers. Vote Libertarian and Constitution parties to end the madness in Washington.

I'm tired of both parties. Both parties are beholden to Special Interest Groups, and do not give a damn about the average American. I hope that the American people will rise up in revolt to what has happened and is happening to the country! It is a crying shame how grown men and women act like freaking idiots!

re voxoreason's comment:
Can't we object to Pres. Obama's position without referring to him as a "Halfro-American" or "Black Moses"?
His color has nothing to do with the substantial objections we have to his policies.
Referring to him is such an ad hoc way only diminishes the strength of your arguments.

This country is in SERIOUS Trouble. I found a few quotes from our founding fathers of this country. They still hold true for today, especially in this time of tyranny, under a few aristocrats who have, like rats looking for food and have found it , infiltrated the upper halls of government getting fat and drunk on their own arrogance and power. Therefore think upon these quotes and know that this November it is all too small of a matter to leave to chance. Support those who are fighting to end the tyranny, corruption and arrogance. Write, donate, stand up and above all VOTE

‘‘A government resting on the minority is an aristocracy, not a Republic, and could not be safe with a numerical and physical force against it, without a standing army, an enslaved press and a disarmed populace.’’
— James Madison, The Federalist Papers (No. 46).

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin”
Samuel Adams 1775

‘‘We, the People are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts — not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the Constitution.’’
— Abraham Lincoln

The libs are opening the door to real change, the question is are Republicans awake? Will they walk through the door or prop up a bunch of RINO's for the next election. True conservatives are in this for the long haul. We are willing to loose a seat or two in order to get real conservatives into office. We need people of character, no more Cunninghams. Time to purge these folks from our ranks. If all we have to offer is liberal-lite we are sunk. I refuse to send money to the Republican party as long as they support liberals like McCain. Are you listening GOP? I do not stand alone. There are many more like me. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be willing to settle for "malignant narcissist." Is that better? It's certainly more accurately descriptive. (If unfamiliar with the term, google it. Fascinating reading.)

Was that the only part of my over-the-top, hyperbolic tirade to which you took exception? I wasn't being ENTIRELY serious.

But those I was satirizing ARE being entirely serious. They are a clear and present danger to America.

I am getting so damned tired of everybody including the "Loft" calling Social Security a drain on the U.S. budget. If ever there was an untruth and downright lie, that is it. Social Security was a seperately funded program, by all of us Baby Boomers and our employers, that the Democrats stole right out from under our noses and put in the country's general fund. There should never have been a shortage or looming demise.

We have been socking away our money into that fund for generations, and the government took it away from us and used it to fund their pork and the country's general purposes. And now Social Security is draining the U.S. budget??!!

Oh God, give me strength! A woman is raped and her rapist is hung out to dry publicly and thrown in prison. Rape Social Security and get away with it year after year, and then call it our (the Boomers) fault for retiring in such large numbers. Sounds very much like a rapist's way of thinking to me.

A-men Kman. The only drain Social Security is connected to, is the politicians stealing it and giving it away. LBJ opened the till for his social agenda. This is known as stealing from hard working Americans. The government was only to be a custodian of the peoples money until they reached the retirement age. That money was not to be used for other purposes. Along came Jimmy "PEANUT" Carter. He decided that we should give socia security payments to anyone who emigrated over the age of retirement would receive social security payments. By the way the are more than people who worked their entire life and payed into the social security system. lastly "I can't keep it in my pants" Clinton Taxed your social security payment. By the way the Last three democratic presidents increased the hardships on the elderly more than all the other presidents combined!

This government has strayed so far from the principles and intent of the Constitution. The spending is insane, but a number of people believe they want things to collapse so they can dig in their claws deeper!

Our hope is to return to the Constitution. The TEA parties are addressing this with constitutional rallies, like this one in Sheboygan, WI:
