This commercial is too controversial for the NFL?

By Bobby Eberle

Have you ever heard of Daniel Defense? If not, you won't be learning about them at this season's Super Bowl either. The company submitted a commercial to be broadcast during Super Bowl XLVIII, but the NFL has rejected it. What's so controversial about it? Take a look, and judge for yourself...

As reported by Guns & Ammo, Daniel Defense put a commercial together that they hoped to air during America's most coveted commercial viewing window: the Super Bowl.

The commercial, which focuses on themes of personal protection and fundamental rights, was originally created by Daniel Defense to run in any network TV station at any time.

According to a statement from FOX to Daniel Defense, “Unfortunately, we cannot accept your commercial in football/Super Bowl spots due to the rules the NFL itself has set into place for your company’s category.”

As Guns & Ammo points out, the NFL's Prohibited Advertising Categories does contain a section regarding firearms and weapons which reads:

Firearms, ammunition or other weapons; however, stores that sell firearms and ammunitions (e.g., outdoor stores and camping stores) will be permitted, provided they sell other products and the ads do not mention firearms, ammunition or other weapons.

But here's the catch, Daniel Defense sells "products other than firearms such as apparel" and the "commercial itself does not mention firearms, ammunition or weaponry." Watch the commercial for yourself:

So what do think? Pretty violent, eh? Pretty outrageous, right?

Here's a great commentary on the issue, please pardon the occasional profanity:

The fact that the subject of "self defense" is actually controversial in America should make everyone pause for a few moments. What's happening to this country?

We have entire groups of legislators and their followers who would rather you sit and be a victim in a home invasion rather than protect yourself. And why? Because according to them, the only organization that should be doing the protecting is government. The less you rely on yourself, the more you will rely on government. That's what they want, and that's exactly what the criminals want too: turn in your guns... wait for the police... everything will be just fine.

We Americans have been victorious in 8 bitter wars in defense of our American birthright. Let those who would destroy us read our history well and take warning. It is written in the blood of our heroes that American freedom shall not perish from the American earth in an American landscape of equality of opportunity conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Equality however is not in the pantheon of the politically correct conquered nation where true American manhood is only sanctioned in the Government politically correct arena of sports and Games which the Roman Emperors used to satiate the lust of the people to embrace their dark violent sides in a government controlled arena that would never threaten the political base of power. It is the same today except for the fact that OUTSIDE the sanctioned arena, everything is done to emasculate the ability of our American maleness to revolt against government tyranny, starting with cocktails of Ritalin for boys just expressing their budding manhood, to the chemicals they put in our plastics to shrink the testicles of any young men who might grow to rebel against the State and the Socialist agenda to control all aspects of American life.

These controllers of our minds and bodies in the controlling offer of the dependency of their political correctness forget that true Americans do not allow our circumstances in life to dictate our ability to act as fee men in defense of our families or our nation,,,,,,we Americans by our inherent nature and our Constitutional DNA, were never designed to be conquered by our circumstances or by our nature, but our circumstances and our nature are first faced then conquered by ourselves. We were designed to do in life what the theater of the games was designed to do on the playing field. Whether we have plenty or nothing, good health or sickness, cancer free or cancer filled, we allow nothing to stand in the way of our indomitable American spirit to first face, then overcome those obstacles which stand in the way of our ability to live as free men, armed with both the truth and the guns required to defend those rights, and defend the weak who look to our American manhood for protection,,,even when it is the state who acts like the enemy of those rights and thoughtful rebellion becomes not only a necessity but an obligation of all free men.

I am a football fan but next to Ice Hockey this is the most violent sport in America. How many convicted felons play in the NFL? We know that some of them are murderers, woman and animal abusers!

I am sick and tired of having Liberal Vermin and other minorities dictating and imposing their treasonous vomit on the rest of U.S.!

We have every right to defend ourselves by ANY means that we choose.

Time to take back OUR country. Lock and Load!

We had a very different caliber of American in those times… much tougher. They didn’t whine. They got pissed off and fought back. BUT… even so, today they’d be fighting against incredible weapons and technology that their mothers and fathers designed and built. (for a corrupt government that will use those weapons and technology against their inventors and their children) Unfortunately, the government has no trouble finding and employing goons with the same mindset as their own, who’ll willingly kill their countrymen for a dollar and bit of power.

Simplest thing to do in my opinion is just don’t watch the Super Bowl. I haven’t watched the thing in I don’t know when. It would be interesting to see how much we supporters of the First and Second Amendments could knock the number of viewers down…..

Gee…well in “defense” of the NFL, may I point out supporting arguements for banning this commercial? 1. The end of the commercial shows an outline of a gun. I always scream in terror and faint at the mere picture of any gun. Even typing the word “gun” is making me sweat and shake in fear. Think of the tens of millions of Americans fainting in fright when they see the outline of an “evil gun” (yep, shaking and sweating again) in a commercial. 2. The commercial shows a white male, middle-class, married to a woman, with a child, spouting drivel about American values, loving his family, and seeking their safety and security. How Wrong! How Evil! How Un-American! Commercials must NOT show White (evil oppressors of minorities), Male (evil oppressors of women), Married to Women (shows hatred/oppression of LGBT), promoting American values (insensitive to other cultures), loving his family (discriminates against dysfunctional families), seeking safety and security (insulting to government, saying they can’t protect you). 3. The concept of “Defense” is only appropriate in the NFL when referring to 11 players seeking to stop the other team from scoring points. How dare you people seek to distract from the glorious Religion of Football by misusing their Godly word of “Defense” to refer to some trivial action of saving your life! You evil gun-owners need to give up your foolish rights, worship Football, and embrace Football’s commercial messages of alcohol and sex being the only worthwhile things of life.

BTW, for the dense Liberals who are actually cheering me on right now…I was being Sarcastic!

It has occurred to me that for the most part the people that post in here are basically conservative, patriotic, pretty intelligent and well read folks. My kind of people. We can all name the President and Vice President as well as our Senators and Representative.

Every now and then a troll wanders in, gives us all a one (“1″) star rating, speaks their peace and after a time gets a, for the most part polite debate, and is figuratively ridden out of town on a rail. Personally, being an old curmudgeon, I rather enjoy their visits because it gives me a chance to hone or practice my rebuttals.

We all know that we are basically playing to the band here, but now and then we pick up a different way of looking at our stance or find new information and a way to argue it, sometimes even change our minds (it’s possible). But, we also know that we are at best only 50% of the voting population and sometimes they do come in and join us and hear what we have to say. We are particularly strong on the Right to Free Speech, the Right to keep and bear and the entire Bill of Rights (not meaning that the entire constitution isn’t extremely important to us).

With the current administration, staff and God knows how many “czars”, plus a do nothing congress of mainly chair warmers who rarely do anything of real value in protecting our country (exception granted to few too many), a President who is a proven liar and who tramples our constitution (and tells us he’s going to do whatever it is that he wants and if we don’t like it we can lump it), a Supreme Court that I thought would support the constitution rather than rewrite it, a Vice President who is a candidate for the nut house and a Speaker of the House (Pelosi), who is delusional at best and the Senate Majority Leader Reid who the best that can be said for him is that he is a liar second only to Obama and a new kind of snake in the grass.

Now, to my point or question. I for one think that there is little chance of an honest election in 2016 thanks to Team Obama, Team Clinton, most Democrats, most blacks who are basically shoe licks for Obama, at least half of the illegal alien Mexicans because they have accepted the bribe at our expense. SEIU and ACORN and the brain dead liberals plus no one watching the polling places (again) and therefore we will see the Marxists win again.

Then we are left with two options. We either curl up in a fetal position and take the overthrow of our government lying down or we rebel in force. Which one depends on our military, our veterans, how many people are blowing smoke and how many will pick up the flag. I’ll confess that I am not confident that our side will win even though we will resist with all we’ve got. I don’t think that Obama is going to go after our second amendment rights during this cycle as he is already in hot water, the NRA, The National Association for Gun Rights and a goodly amount of right minded folks such as my fellow Texans.

That leaves us with a political chance. We must break the Democrats, liberals etc. backs in the November elections or take sides in one or the other of the above. The recent recalls in Colorado give me some hope, but not overblown confidence. I’m a tad old to “Charge the Bastille” or bravely “Ride into the Valley of Death”, but with just a spark of nationwide support, I’ll bring up the rear and if nothing else cook for all (although I was the top candidate in gunnery fifty years ago in Field Artillery, I must modestly admit that I could ruin a 5 ton truck from 20 miles. Anyone out there remember how to load the things?

Food for thought and maybe a little self searching.

      I get dibs on Texasgrandma.

      sumitch,
you are a tried, proven, true Loyal American Veteran, and loyalist to our Country. I commend you on your service to our Great Nation, and wish it was still the great Nation it was back then. Back then you could say a prayer to God, in the mud of a foxhole, when the battle was too tough to handle on your own, even with the aid of your fellow soldiers. Now if you are caught saying a prayer to God on or off the battlefield, you would be labeled a terrorist, and toted off to the brig for mind reconditioning.
This is a different world from that of times gone by, with a different man sitting in the power seat, with all his lap dogs and loyal czars hanging on every evil word and work he does.

You, and every other military survivee, and contributor of life and limb, are loyal to our Country, and freely offered your lives for our freedoms, and those of our Nation. Patriots and Loyalists, every one, You have our deepest gratitude for your service, and sacrifices made, to make us the greatest Nation on the face of the earth.
Unfortunately, the military personnel of today have been taught a different set of rules, but none the less, still fight for our Country even though their minds are rearranged to the politically correct thinking of one Barrack Hussein Nobama. I appreciate their service as well, in keeping with the reason for it. I do hope that they still have the fortitude to ask God for guidance and deliverance from the rough spots, even if they have to do it silently in their minds.
Gunny, I would be most proud to have you watching my back, as I fight any enemy of our Country, either Foreign, or Domestic. God Bless You one and all. THANK YOU

Hey Progressive Liberal Democrats! Let me explain to you AGAIN, that gun sitting in the gun cabinet does not Kill people by itself. It takes a person to take that gun and aim and fire at another. Yes a person kills ,not the gun.

It appears that the last several shootings have occurred by those left wing mental cases that you think needed to be free and not detained for their own well being and our safety, so they could wander the city streets. But they are OK, when they take their meds, ya right!

Maybe the NFL is thinking this might be a good way to stop their own NFL players from committing crimes with a gun? Who knows how many girlfriends or wives of NFL players may be saved by this valiant attempt by the NFL to hide any information regarding guns from their overpaid and under-educated players.

How many suicides by NFL players could be stopped? How many self-inflicted gunshot wounds? If the NFL had of acted sooner, perhaps that low-life ex-Patriot’s player would be free today. I could go on … But I’m feeling sick to my stomach.

This morning I listened to last evenings Hannity interview of Glenn Beck. Beck emphatically told the audience that if we didn’t know of the Athens, Tennessee battle of 1946 (which I admit I did not), we must learn about it. I did. Here is one read: http://patriotpost.us/alexander/13407; and here is another: http://jpfo.org/filegen-a-m/athens.htm. In the latter, at the top left was a box to click reading: “The ‘Gun Control’ Genocide Chart” – read it here.” I did. Every citizen must read these actual accounts. Then, everyone needs to read the chart. The chart will make you weep. God save America! God, please save America!

Oh, the rest of the story is vitally important. Beck also told the audience to check out the “miracle of Al Capone.” I didn’t know about that either. Google: “The Confessions of Al Capone” — page 337. With more than a thousand rounds fired at him Capone wrote: “The miracle was no one was killed.” That’s the point. Gun control is about protecting without killing.

The moral climate in this country has changed radically in the last few years. Self-defense has become controversial, lying has become a legitimate political strategy, sexual perversity is being promoted by the government, and our taxes fund the murdering of unborn children.
Blaming Obama, the Democrats and Big Business is futile because they are not the problem. They are the evidence of the problem, and they are the product of our demand. The real problem is that most of the people in our society have turned away from God, and all of the wrong choices made by our fellow Americans have made our society what it is.

Sadly, there is much truth in cause vs. symptom.

Fools raise foolish voters, foolish voters elect foolish politicians, foolish politicians make foolish laws and implant foolish judges … and we wind up living in the land of fools rather than the “land of the free and the home of the brave.” When the brave cease to stop the fools … we get a “transformed America” that goes from God Bless America to God save us.

The wisdom of Godliness has been lost on generations of breeding more fools each and every day. The critical mass of fools, and fools with money and greed striving for more of the fools money has this country at a perilous point in its history. Barring a radical change, our is destined to either a civil war of some form or the likes of being Christian in Rome. Let Rome do what it will, you can’t stop it (critical mass) … but you must yourself be wise to Godliness in the face of being the minority … something that we have never experienced in our lifetimes, yet we are destined to.

Rome wasn’t built in a day … and the transformation of America hasn’t been built in one election. Yet, history is destined to repeat itself when we refuse to learn from it. Welcome to the forefront of Rome II, American style unless we revert our current course.

This is how Fascism starts. Corrupted morality followed by making good things immoral to justify their immorality. Then censoring those who would speak out against immorality. Then you get political and media control of the masses followed by grab for power. Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, this is how they ascended into power; two of them in Republics.

What amazes me is people always ask, ‘How can things like the Holocaust happen?’. Stupidity as referenced by this article. We are going to wake up or be the next Civilization tossed into the dustbin of history.

I have always been an avid football fan (Go Bears!), but in recent years it has become more and more difficult for me to enjoy what used to be an American family tradition. I can remember watching the very first Super Bowl. Back then, the whole focus was on the game and everyone was glad for a commercial break so that everyone had a chance to go to the bathroom. Then the advertising people decided they had to come up with something big to keep us around for those commercial breaks, so Coca Cola brought in Mean Joe Green and Budweiser gave us their signature clydesdales. It has always seemed ironic to me that the most “family friendly” commercials are the ones from the beer company – perhaps an attempt to “hook ‘em young”? Then there is the evolution of the half-time shows. It used to be marching bands and hall of famers. Now we are subjected to soft porn (which I refuse to watch), in the form of Beyonce and Janet Jackson (if you believe the whole “malfunction” story, then you probably still believe Osama is the “annointed one”). But leave all of that aside for just a second and go back in time to an old Super Bowl half-time ad for Master Lock. Now someone explain to me how the old Master Lock commercials were ok but this one isn’t.

On almost every station you see shows with much violence and guns blazing. Same with most thriller movies out today and video games that are advertised during football games.

What the hell is so wrong about this commercial which supports our 2nd amendment rights to defend our homes?

    Sweet land of libery…no more.

Perhaps if they had showed some side boob and mentioned condoms, in the ad, no one at the NFL would care. Personally I think pro-football and major league baseball are fixed anyway.

Yes, sports used to be a past-time that everyone could enjoy. A positive thing in our society. Something that took most Americans away from the day to day drudge. Good healthy competition among sports fans who rooted and bet on their favorite teams whether it was baseball, football or basketball. As American as hot dogs and apple pie.

Then the gang-bangers had to start using it as a prestige symbol. Something that was degraded. You wear a Raiders or Dodgers cap and jacket and you are as good as dead. Such a shame that sports has become so a-political and one-sided, otherwise they would allow this commercial to be shown. Really, there should be no commercialism in sports. It should continue to be something we can enjoy without bias.

Whither or not the Commercial is allowed to air, it’s message is merely a reminder to people to be vigilant, and protect their Families, and property.
No matter who, or what, wants us to give up our guns, our protection, and our right of protection of our selves, friends, and families, will loose the battle. Those of us who possess arms have them for a reason, and we will not let them be removed without a fight. We are guaranteed the right to bear arms, and defend what is ours in our Constitution, and even if they weren’t, intellect tells us not to let ourselves be bullied or harmed by a rogue Government, or any person.
If we give up our rights to defend ourselves, and our arms, we will become no more than sheep to be sheared, powered into submission, and slaughtered by whomever or whatever, wishes to do so. Stand tall, walk unswervingly, keep your property, and all you care about safe. Give up your arms, give up your freedoms, My arms will be taken, only from my cold, dead hands, when it comes to standing up for myself and mine.
Guns do not kill people, it is the one squeezing the trigger which does.
Unfortunately, sometimes, a person is behind the sights which should not own a gun, but they are only in the 2% bracket of gun owners, the 98 % are responsible, and intellectually gauge when they should, or should not be used.
If responsible people give up their arms, they are just as likely to roll over and expose their soft bellies to the aggressor.

Thank you for the kind words above freedomfighter @10:47 pm. Many of us at my senior citizenship are mostly just grown up Boy Scouts. We served when called even when many of us didn’t know exactly what we were fighting about other than we have to fight them here or we’ll have to fight them at home.

I will have to admit that I only remember one prayer (I’m sure there were more than one). If I have it right it was:

      Dear God.
If you can’t help me, please don’t help that SOB.
      Amen.

the biggest problem was the commercial showed him in a Marine corps uniform in one of the pictures.
and the comment after is right on hypocritical as all get out flaunt the violence of football as acceptable but defending your family or country is some how censurable?

Shouldn’t a private company have the right to determine what associations it can make in a free market? They’ve rejected ads from atheist and liberal groups too.
