There's something very eerie going on at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Where the Republican National Convention was about God and faith and hard work and individual achievement, the DNC is all about worshipping at the altar of big government. In addition to their open embrace of government, the DNC delegates also struck the word "God" from their party's platform. Goodbye God... hello government.
First, let's focus on God, or in the case of the Democrat platform, the lack of God. As reported by CBN.com, all references to God that were once included in the Democrat platform have now been purged.
This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform:
"We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential."
Now the words "God-given" have been removed. The paragraph has been restructured to say this:
"We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth - the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us."
Now granted, there is a plank that focuses on "faith" and the importance of it in communities, but why was reference to God taken out? What is it that we are supposed to have faith in? (Ah, that's a trick question, because we know the Democrats' answer to that one!)
GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan called the move "peculiar" in a report by Fox News.
"I think it's rather peculiar. It's not in keeping with our founding documents, our founding vision, but I guess you'd have to ask the Obama administration why they purged all this language from their platform," Ryan said in an interview with Fox News.
So, by rejecting God, what are the Democrats embracing at this year's convention? Two things: Barack Obama and government. Even the convention logo is another sign that it's all about Obama.
But the creepiest thing for me so far is the video that was released by the convention. The video claims that in America, the ONLY thing we all belong to is government.
Yes, it's brief, but it says so much. First of all, we do NOT belong to government. Government belongs to us! It is put in place to serve us! It doesn't grant us anything or bestow anything to us. The only powers of government are those given to it by the citizens.
Secondly, what about the American spirit? What about freedom? What about liberty? What about the American dream? Aren't those ideals that unite us? Aren't they concepts that we all "belong to"?
Although the DNC is just getting started, the results from the first day paint a clear picture of what the left is all about. On the day that America surpassed $16 trillion in debt, the Democrats want to tell us that government is king. Oh... and forget about God too.
