How low have political ads fallen?

By Bobby Eberle

We see it with the Chick-fil-A controversy... liberals talk about tolerance and inclusion, yet only apply it to themselves. In the arena of political ads, the left knows no limits either. Just look at the latest ads running against Mitt Romney and Allen West. Decide for yourself if Democrats have any standards at all.

First, let's start with Rep. Allen West. As reported by Fox News, West is outraged at the latest campaign ad running against him... an ad "financed by his potential Democratic opponent's father."

So what image do you take away from this ad? Allen West punching senior citizens and women? What do you think that ad does for the countless people who go to the polls knowing nothing about the real issues?

Here's what Allen West had to say:

West said the ad reflects a "sad state of politics" in the country.
"The ad being run against me by my opponent's family depicting violence against women and senior citizens is reprehensible," West said. "It plays on stereotypes and fear to divide Americans, and it cheapens the very real and tragic occurrences of violence against women and seniors. The American people are suffering from crushing debt, horrific tax and regulatory policies, and epic unemployment. This classless ad shows a lack of regard for the issues plaguing our nation."

Then there is the anti-Romney ad that will hopefully end up doing more damage to the Obama campaign in the long run. It is despicable and blatantly false. Here's the ad:

Where do I even start on this one? There are so many things wrong with it, but the point is that left-wing supporters of Barack Obama don't care that the ad is false. They only care about how it will influence voters. Here's key information from a report by The Hill:

The ad, which has not yet aired, was filmed by the super-PAC run by former White House aide Bill Burton, and features a steelworker who used to work for a company that was taken over by Bain Capital, the investment firm founded by Mitt Romney. The worker lost his job and health insurance, and the ad insinuates a link between that and his wife's subsequent death from cancer.

Independent fact-checkers have noted, however, that the cancer patient featured in the ad died six years after Bain bought the husband's company, that she had her own health insurance through her employer, and that Romney was not in charge of the investment firm when her husband was let go.

The woman died six years after the plant was closed... and Romney is to blame? And she had health insurance!

Fortunately, Romney is coming back with this ad:

This ad is right on. It is absolutely pathetic to use the death of anyone for political gain. This man's lose is being exploited and twisted in a way that should be illegal. That ad is false, and it should not run.

Is this simply the state of politics these days. Have you seen other outrageous ads? Please let people know the truth about what is going on. Spread the word. If the only influence is that of these bogus ads, then all those uninformed voters will truly get what they deserve: another four years of Barack Obama.

The Dem party is defunct and devoid of any ‘standards’ or ‘values’. They have proven over and over that all they have is the socialist / Marxist agenda and to place them in any kind of position of having ‘standards’ is a very funny joke.
I guess you might say that if lying, conniving, scheming, and deceiving are any type of ‘standard’ or ‘value’ then they have considerable.
To give any credence to Slimy Harry Reid, Nancy dodobird Pelosi, or Pres. Oclueless would take a lot of brainwashing. [Probably to the extent of removing the brain].

I am so sick of both parties, any more. Neither one is telling the truth. Let’s all do ourselves a favor and demand from BOTH parties, more integrity.

Folks, please know that after all the dust settles, all the false bravado, posturing, etc., BOTH parties have only their own selfish interests in mind. They are like lawyers who talk a good game against opposing counsel, only to go out for beers after both have collected their fees.

How many of the idiots on this GOP site, or the idiots on the Dem sites understand that each party is merely arguing AGAINST what they were FOR , the last time. Just because the other side says it.

Both DEM and GOP supporters are acting like their respoective parties are the truth, the light and the way.

    How utterly stupid.

I am only 52, and I have never seen so many people on BOTH sides, say so many idiotic things. BOTH parties are the same; useless

But what you fail to understand is that Mitt Romney was attacked not once but twice in the past week with lies and innuendo and neither time was he attacked on the issues.

First Romney was accused by Senate Mayoralty Leader Harry Inbreed, and on the floor of the US Senate, with a specious claim that he had not paid his taxes for ten years. Inbreed refuses to provide any factual support only saying he got the information from a very good source. Kind of reminds me of Joe McCarthy holding up the paper and saying “Here I have a list of 60 communists in the government.”

Second, is the fallacious spot accusing Romney and Bain Capital of causing the death of Joe Septic’s wife. This spot is filled with lies and furthermore the Obozo campaign and administration lied saying they had no knowledge of the spot when in fact their knowledge of the spot was well documented.

Nothing Romney nor the Republican Party has done come even close to these slimy situations. You might want to rethink your charge that both parties are useless.

Comment by iam3 I have heard many people say the same thing, but what you are saying is “I lack the ability to discern and judge between what is beneficial for me and my country, and that which is not.”

If that is the case, I suggest that you need to make some time to educate yourself about what these men really stand for, and then, stand for something yourself.

On a darker note, most of the people that say “I don’t see any difference,” are actually disgruntled Ron Paul supports who are going to vote for Obama, anyway.

No two men are the same, and rarely will anyone see two as different as Romney and Obama, and their respective plans for America.

I suspect, as with the Chick-fil-A debacle, if the dems run this horrific and dishonest ad it is going to back-fire big time. I can’t imagine a man being conned into using his dead wife in this way, but maybe he can be excused because he was manipulated by experts. Intelligent and thoughtful people of all political persuasions will be appalled by this ad. Only the rabid dogs, who seem to be in charge of the Democrats now, will enjoy shredding the memory of a person who is gone from this earth and can no longer defend herself.

You can’t imagine a man being used this way? I can’t imagine a man allowing himself to be used this way. His wife clearly didn’t die as a result of GTC Steel being shuttered. She died five years later in 2006. Why anyone would invoke his wife’s memory to tell such scurrilous lies is beyond me.

I read a book about Obama while he was in Chicago, and it says that they tried to demonize every opponent he had, use every dirty trick in their book and that is how he won in Chicago. I guess he is still a Chicago thug. Look what they have done to Romney, looked over everything on him and so far the only thing they can prove is that he bullied a kid when he was a kid. I would think if they would look at Obama’s records he wouldn’t be our president today.

I can’t really comment on the West spot since I have no information on the Florida race…but I can tell you there are at least five lies in the “Mitt Killed My Wife” spot.

    1) GTC was failing when it was taken over by Bain Capital in 1993, it was over unioned and outdated and in danger of failing. Bain poured millions of dollars into GTC before finally deciding to close the company in 2001. The 750 GTC jobs left in 2001 would have been gone in 1993 if Bain hadn’t acquired the company.

    2) As is well known, Gov. Romney didn’t even control Bain Capital in 2001 despite the Democlowns protestations and fiddling with the numbers to try to make their arguments work. At any rate, when Mrs. Septic died in 2006 Romney was long gone from Bain.

    3) GTC was closed in 2001 but Mrs. Septic died five years later in 2006, not 22 days later as the spot implies.

    4) Mrs. Septic had her own insurance, she wasn’t even covered primarily by the insurance that Joe Septic had at GTC.

    5) Stephanie Cutter, Obozo Deputy Campaign Manager held a conference call starring Joe Septic in May 2012 in which Septic outlined the charge that Romney and Bain were responsible for his wife’s death from cancer. The Obozo campaign also began running a two minute video on it’s website featuring Septic wearing the same clothing he is wearing in the current Priorities USA ad.

Despite this very documentable evidence, the Obozo campaign claimed on CNN to know nothing about the Priorities USA spot and , furthermore, refused to take a stand against the documented lies.

Will Obozo and his minions do everything possible to stay in power? Is the Pope, Catholic? Every American who believes in honesty…especially honesty in elections will vote against Obozo to tell the Jerk-in-Chief that his ridiculous charges go way too far.

And just to clarify: I’m talking about honesty, simple honesty, not exaggeration. Exaggerated claims are the sine qua non of political advertising. We may not like them when they are made against our side but that’s the way it goes.

Great post response. Your details explain it all. When Obama first ran for Senate in IL he was behind in the polls, but the sleazy campaign people around Obama (including Axlerod) found ways to destroy the character of his opponents by gaining access to sealed records of one candidate’s divorce and the other had sealed records that were somehow revealed as well.

They cannot find character flaws with Romney’s past so they invent things like this ad. Bain helped to increase revenues and job growth in over 80% of the companies they invested in. That is the real reason for their success.

Politics get dirty and that is a shame. But the fact remains many of us agree that obama must go. Never mind his dirty political ads. Those are the least of it. His policies, his ideology, his plans for a very different America than most of us want or need are the things we must concentrate on. We must remain diligent and stand firm on our principles if we are to rid ourselves of him and his corrupt administration. We have been living in a nightmare for 4 years and when we look around us America is in dire straits. There is a palpable sense of doom and gloom hanging over our country since he took office. Those elected leaders who agree with the majority of us should STOP saying he is a nice guy. He is not. Any leader who stands before his “supposed” countrymen and lies through his teeth, who will say and do anything for his own agenda, his own advancement, his own self-importance is NOT a NICE GUY.

Nobama is absolutely desperate to be re-elected, and there is NOTHING he would not do to accomplish that. Doesn’t it say anything that this wannab President is the least known of all sitting Presidents of our Country?. We know less about him than any other President. He had all of his personal records sealed the moment he was sworn in, so what does this tell us?. He came from nowhere, with nothing, to show of his qualifications, other than his HOPE and CHANGE running slogan. He has most certainly delivered on the change, as he has done more to destroy our Nation than most of our Countries enemies have done.
He said “ We are no longer a Christian Nation” and immediately set about taking religion and God out of our Country.
His answer to creating jobs is to try and get all Illegals marked as Citizens, so that they can legally compete with Americans for our jobs. He says he will make our Economy better, while allowing all Illegals to make more money per month than our retirees and poor get. He allows them to collect SS, and all benefits, although they have paid 0 into the system.
He spends us into a debt which is so deep that we can not even afford to pay the interest on, much less begin paying it down. The Government right now, collects less in taxes than its debt/obligations. We are upside down, and each day it gets worse. He is putting us into a position from which our next President will have to go to extremes to even have a chance of turning it around. We have to constantly borrow, just to keep our head above the waters of the debt pool.
Who the hell is this guy?. Why do people remain blind and deaf to what he is doing to our Country, and remain loyal to this fraud?.
Romney’s campaign is trying to remain on the issues, while Nobamas campaign is only trying to discredit the man as the opponent, while staying away from the issues. They are most aware that if they hit the issues, that the positive side of Mr Romney will show through.
Why would anyone who is not trying to hide something, be so diligent in making sure nothing is known about them?.
He sealed all of his records, he fought to keep from showing his birth certificate, and then all the time he fought it gave someone the time needed to bring a fake Birth Certificate to bare. If I had nothing to hide, I certainly would not seal my records, and most certainly would not have a problem with producing my B.C., if I were asked for it.
This man should rightfully have been declared a traitor, and shown to be ineligible to serve as President, yet here he is, pushing hard for a second term. It makes absolutely no sense to me. He should have been slapped down for his blatant disregard for the Constitution which when he was sworn in, declared a oath to keep defended against enemies both foreign and domestic.
Romney should, in retaliation to the personal attacks, make strong points of these facts. Let the deaf and blind Americans understand that this man is the GREATEST PRETENDER, completely unqualified to hold the office of President of the greatest Country in the World.
4 more years of Nobama will literally destroy our Country and all that has been done in the last two to three hundred years spent making it not only great, but a target for Citizenship of all people because of our greatness, and the freedoms we have here. It is way past time to dial 911, and have the Political Police come in and arrest this man who sits illegally in the Presidents chair.
I apologize for the long read, my wife always says it takes me a sentence to say three words. Maybe she is right.

Few want to accept the blame for their own actions. For example, Bethlehem Steel went bankrupt in the early 90s and its plight was described in the WSJ. They had 96,000 people receiving healthcare and retirement benefits, but only 16,000 who were employed. The company was so bankrupt no one would buy it and the union was inflexible in their demands. Government stepped in to create an agency to assume the liabilities and the company was sold to a foreign buyer. This shift of consequences must have been known to every employee, but 15 years latter I’m being told by a lawyer with outstanding credentials about this poor woman who’d expected a pension of $2500.00/month from Bethlehem. She was, however, getting only $200.00 a month. The reality this person never mentioned was that this $200 was coming from the taxpayers and not Bethlehem Steel. The steel company that Bain tried to save obviously had the same corporate cancer that had killed Bethlehem, but amazingly it seems to have survived for years after it should have been closed.

Workers at the US Toyota plant were getting about $32/hour and were expected to pay their own healthcare and pension benefits as I had to as a state employee in a realistic state. GM workers in comparison were being paid a similar hourly wage, but had been promised about $46/hour in benefits. Obviously, GM was similarly bankrupt so the UAW bought an election and got 39% of the newly issued GM stock and China another hunk. Lord only knows where the healthcare and pension promises went, but I might suspect a sentence in the Obamacare Act would reveal a lot.

Of course the Democrats are resorting to lies and deceit, if they lose their access to the nation’s printing presses to print FED notes, people will be able connect the collapse of the economy to all the manipulations of the last 20 years and the numerous bubbles politicians have created.

Four years ago my husband left the company he worked for because they were acquired by a company he didn’t feel comfortable working for (ethically). We ended up with COBRA and then a succession of different individual health insurance plans and now, with ObamaCare sending premiums to an astronomical level and the HHS mandate on abortificants leaving no policies that don’t cover these services, we are without insurance. Who exactly should I blame for any health issues we have in the future?

In truth, I will blame no one. It is our choice to make the decisions that are best for our family, financially, medically, morally and ethically.

If you like the policies of Carl Marx, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Eva Peron, and a Jimmy Carter on Steriods, you deserve Barak H Obama, the destroyer of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He has no problem with this ad and probably if left to him would reach deeper in the sewer for claims. His claims as a Christian are supported by the likes of Reverend Wright, who has spoken about Obama very negatively. In my opinion, after watching him in action from his days running for the nomination of the Democratic Party in 2008 to the present time. It reminds me of my grandmother’s account of Muslim governments. Don’t believe a word they say. She lived through the Genicide in Turkey and knows full well how they operate. Obama in my opinion practices what is titled Taquiyya in the Koran (5:32). In essence tell your oponents what they want to hear but intend to do the opposite in order to defeat them.
If you can honestly say what Obama has done in the past 3 1/2 years has been good for you and the country, and he did as he promised in 2008, then by all means vote for him. I’ll bet if you are one of those people your either a government employee, a union sypathizer, on welfare, profited by one of his executive orders, or have no idea of simple economics. I must say, your gaining on the responsible citizen of the US. This man wouldn’t have been elected to any position in this country 50 years ago. Look how far we have come!
