Is the economy turning around? Are more jobs being created than ever before? How about that debt? With so much going on, one would think that the left wing talking heads would be focused on the "serious" issues. However, the "major crusade" for liberal Bill Press is not any of those issues. It's getting rid of the National Anthem, which he calls "an abomination."
Brian Maloney does a great job dissecting Bill Press' comments on his Radio Equalizer blog. Thanks to him for putting the clip together.
Again, Press starts by saying that getting rid of the National Anthem is a "major crusade, a major cause" of his. Come on!
Press acknowledges that he will probably be criticized for being "unpatriotic," and I'll come back to that point in just a little bit, but he starts his comments with how "unsingable" the song is.
Now we've all heard musician's botch the words. We know that the range of the song is difficult. Press points out that the song "ranges two octaves, and most people can only do kind of one octave." But none of this goes to the core of what makes Press' comments so typically left wing.
He then focuses on the words themselves... not the song... but the words. Press questions the appropriateness of "the home of the brave." Press asks, "Are we the only ones who are brave on the planet?" Bill! Are you serious?
"It's just stupid," Press adds.
And then he finishes with: "I'm embarrassed every time I hear it."
I've heard discussions for years about the National Anthem. Many folks would like to see God Bless America as a fitting replacement. What do you think?
The fact that Press wants a new song is not nearly as aggravating as the reasons why. He just couldn't stop with describing the song's difficult. He HAD to go left-wing on it. YES... America is the home of the brave. It's one of the best endings of any song out there. Get a clue, Bill.

The older one you posted was heavily criticized for being wildly inaccurate, essentially made up stuff. (he even got the name of Fort McHenry wrong and called it Fort Henry. To his credit he made another video with the correct facts.

This guy just needs to be slapped around , who cares if it’s hard to sing ? There is a hell of a lot of people who sing that song GREAT just the way it is , maybe we should just get better singers, and home of the BRAVE , your damn right ! Ask some of these other countries that were aways saving , again this guy needs to be Slapped around !

Although I totally disagree with this left-wing moron, you have to admit: 1) the anthem is very hard to sing; 2) the words make little sense unless you know what went on at Ft. Henry when it was written; 3) most everyday people don’t know the words, aside from the fact that it’s written in “Old English”; 4) Nine out 10 times when an “artist” sings it he/she blotch it up, notwithstanding grabbing your crotch a-la-Rossie O’Donell; and nowadays most citizens don’t even remove their hats, or put their right hand to their heart, when it’s played or sung. So all you “sensitive” people out there, give yourselves a break; this is one moron’s opinion. By the way, I am a retired Marine with 33 years of service, and served in a war along several other “conflicts.” I am a patriot and love the USA. GEH

It was Rosanne Barr, not Rosie O’Donnell, who spat and grabbed her crotch after blowing the performance so bad the crowd booed her. And it also seems you missed the point of most of the posts on this forum. It’s not about the Star Spangled Banner being hard to sing: it’s about the smug attitude of liberals like Bill Press who object to the patriotic lyrics as well as the music.

This is what you get when someone tries to be a liberal high brow. Bill thinks he knows better than those who have gone before him, but I can’t think of one thing he’s contributed to our Nation. By the way Bill there’s alot of people in Europe who remembers WWII and would agree with the line, “home of the brave”.
