Talk Show Host: National Anthem is an Abomination

By Bobby Eberle

Is the economy turning around? Are more jobs being created than ever before? How about that debt? With so much going on, one would think that the left wing talking heads would be focused on the "serious" issues. However, the "major crusade" for liberal Bill Press is not any of those issues. It's getting rid of the National Anthem, which he calls "an abomination."

Brian Maloney does a great job dissecting Bill Press' comments on his Radio Equalizer blog. Thanks to him for putting the clip together.

Again, Press starts by saying that getting rid of the National Anthem is a "major crusade, a major cause" of his. Come on!

Press acknowledges that he will probably be criticized for being "unpatriotic," and I'll come back to that point in just a little bit, but he starts his comments with how "unsingable" the song is.

Now we've all heard musician's botch the words. We know that the range of the song is difficult. Press points out that the song "ranges two octaves, and most people can only do kind of one octave." But none of this goes to the core of what makes Press' comments so typically left wing.

He then focuses on the words themselves... not the song... but the words. Press questions the appropriateness of "the home of the brave." Press asks, "Are we the only ones who are brave on the planet?" Bill! Are you serious?

"It's just stupid," Press adds.

And then he finishes with: "I'm embarrassed every time I hear it."

I've heard discussions for years about the National Anthem. Many folks would like to see God Bless America as a fitting replacement. What do you think?

The fact that Press wants a new song is not nearly as aggravating as the reasons why. He just couldn't stop with describing the song's difficult. He HAD to go left-wing on it. YES... America is the home of the brave. It's one of the best endings of any song out there. Get a clue, Bill.

I would like to think that most often, these creeps just like to get peoples dander up – which perhaps boosts their ratings. If he really feels this way, then that is what he should be embarrassed about. Take him to Afganistan for a little real life training – then lets talk about bravery.

Maybe we should just allow the Blue states to secede from the union and form their own Socialist State of secular inspired Constitutional failure. They can create their own flag which should display the symbol of a Black and White skunk with a yellow stripe down his back on a field of Rainbow coalition stripes.

Their National anthem can be “The Way We Were” Sung by Barbara Streisand,,,,it a tune they can all carry and will soon be longing for, they way they were and they way the Red states still remain, proserous.

dhconner: It is exactly because of the free and the brave that Press is able to air his views. Were it not for the hundreds of thousands who fought, died, and won 2 World Wars and the millions more who were wounded heart, mind, body, and soul,Press would be another useful idiot who would say exactly what he was told to say. No more and no less.

The thanks we owe all those who have served our nation in uniform can never be fully expressed. From the end of World War 2 men and women in uniform faced off with the the USSR until the Berlin Wall came down. Now they hunt and kill the actors and progeny of the World Trade Center, and get mangled and killed doing the dirty work that Press most likely doesn’t have the guts to do.

If he ever was in the service, he has so demeaned himself that he ought never refer to it. “First they came for the Jews, and no one said anything. Then they came for the Christians, and still no one said anything. Then they came for me, but there was no one left to say anything for me”.

In closing: “Rough men stand ready so that peaceable men can sleep well in their beds” (sic). Had free and brave men not done thier duty, Press could very easily start each day with “The Internationale” or with “Ein Reich! Ein Volk! Ein Furher!”.

Personally, I’d like to chain him to an M4 and drop-kick him off the ramp of a Chinook in the mountains along the AfgHaninstan-Pakistan border at 12,000 feet. Just a working parachute and a kick in the butt. He’d soon come to understand the first quotation in this paragraph. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE; IT IS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR WITH BLOOD AND DEATH, AND MAINTAINED THE SAME WAY. Those who mock it and it’s symbology are unworthy of it, and are best ignored as the idiots they are.

Mary S., It seems like White House distributes all talking points to the media and the one’s that will not follow the POTUS are villified.
Last I heard was Obama was attempting to deny consevative radio from the Armed Forces Radio Waves and I am not sure if he succeeded but just his thinking of doing so sounds just like how the Nazi party began to control the media.
Does the sky have to fall on some peoples heads for them to realize what this president is attempting to accomplish which is to take all of our freedoms away by violating the Constitution and daring anyone to stop him?
It is so obvious how the media is controlled by the liberals and the leader of the media takeover is the billionaire socialist George Soros who is also controlling the strings attached to our puppet and chief.
If Press does not like our national anthem and is “Embarrassed Everytime I Hear It”, it would be easier and cost efficient if Press moves to another country instead of our Country getting rid of our National Anthem.
I am a big fan of the Philadelphia Flyers and whenever they have to play a must win game they play God Bless America sung by Kate Smith, and it still gives me goosebumps when I hear her singing it at a hockey game, but when I watch the Olympics and we win a gold medal when I hear our National Anthem I don’t only get goosebumps but the tears flow freely from my eyes out of National Pride.
This Press character should board a plane and take Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and all the other anti American so called celebrities with him to whatever country that would accept them, then they could all try to get Obama elected in their new country so he could destroy that country and we will be rid of allot of trash that even land fills woundn’t accept here.

Press is correct, the national anthem is difficult to sing but that’s the worst thing you can say about it. As you pointed out Press’ real motive here is the words. That became crystal clear when he started to criticize “The Star Spangled Banner” as too militaristic.

Well, Mr Press…what would you like? Something about the land of hope and change, maybe something about how transparent our government has become under Obozo. Let’s face it, what you really want is a paean to Obozo…you’re Lord and master.

Personally, I’ll support a new national anthem. Something like “America the Beautiful” would be good. It sings the praises of the country and most people could stand to learn the other verses as well. “God Bless America” is just a bit too poppy for my taste.

But enough of the sissified, liberal (sorry for the redundancy) claptrap that Press uses for his argument.

joelin, for the most part I agree with your article. “God Bless America” was a pop song in its time. I love “America the Beautiful” but as good a song as it is our “National Anthem” is inspiring in a way “America the Beautiful” isn’t. Any singer can sing this song easily because they shouldn’t even attempt it if they don’t have a two octave range. It’s not the fault of the song if the pop singers who try to sing it screw up the words.

I understand that Press probably has no voice and is much more comfortable with “Kumbayah” or perhaps “Leaving on a jet plane” (maybe he will) because they have about 5 notes but please spare us the boredom. Any of those songs from the 60s so beloved by the Left are all the most boring, repetitive dirges I ever heard.

And you know what, I don’t care if the melody was an old drinking song. I’ll gladly raise a glass to our Flag and to the Republic, for which it stands.

Charie, your reference to the pop singers who screw up the words to the Star Spangled Banner brings up another one my pet peeves which is the way they deliberately change various parts of the melody to make it seem like they’re embellishing it. I really hate that! They have no right to arbitrarily change the song from the way it was originally sung. It also irritates me when some celebrity gets chosen to sing it at a sporting event when it’s obvious the person has no ability to do so. Remember how Rosanne Barr completely messed it up and then spat and grabbed her crotch in response to the booing crowd? Disgusting!

Liberals are embarrassed with everything we hold dear. They have no allegiance to this nation, no pride in our flag, and would rewrite all our history to make it appear that the U.S. was the cause of all the world’s problems.

His comment that the National Anthem being too “militaristic” speaks volumnes about his hatred for the patriotic Americans who have served in the military and kept this nation safe. If it wasn’t for the courage of the U.S. military, this entire world would be oppressed under some madman such as Hitler.

He would really hate it if we sang the entire thing.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

We sang all the verses in grammar school, but not at the same time. The teacher would announce each Friday what the verse of the day was. The other four days, we sang only the first, but on Fridays it was the first plus the one she added.

Rural southeastern Tennessee, a farm boy. But, you have to remember it isn’t just the location; I was in grammar school in the 1940s, a different world, both figuratively and literally. She also made sure we understood what the words meant. Same with the Pledge of Allegiance, we didn’t just repeat it by rote, we knew what we were pledging, and why. A different world, my lady, a different world entirely. More’s the pity, as The Bard might put it.

thedove, we need more teachers like that today. When our Cub Scouts had to do the section on the American flag, we learned that the Pledge of Allegiance is not spoken correctly. According to the book, there should be no pause between “one nation under God.” Makes sense not to pause, but since it truly is learned by rote, I suppose the pause helps with the cadence.

The music for the National Anthem came from a Brit drinking song. Tonal wise the Anthem is very difficult to sing. It is warlike and inflammatory. It is time to change to “God Bless America” or “America, the Beautiful”. As a Navy Vietnam era vet, I believe in supporting patriotism. However, it is time for this “National Anthem to go”.

“God Save The Queen” is not a Brittish drinking song. It’s the British national anthem. When we separated from England it was quite natural to take the national anthem and put our own, more appropriate words to it. The song states, clearly, that we were attacked, we fought back, and we won. Also, that we will do so again, if necessary. If that’s warlike and inflamatory, so be it.

I understand that the present vogue is to jettison anything that smacks of tradition in this country and replace it with something more “global”, but God (that inappropriate entity) knows that things to be proud of are becoming an endangered species, and a song that says we are proud and brave and can stand up for ourselves is not a bad thing to hold on to.

It doesn’t matter how hard our National Anthem is to sing; it has to do with what it represents to our freedom from Britain’s tyranny at that time and should always be remembered with honor and pride. There would be no other appropiate song to represent our country. People who won’t sing it in its traditional way should not sing it in public. That is disrespectful to our country.

The U.S. constitution was ratified in 1788, only 24 years before the next war with England – the war of 1812 – when England could take resources from its war with France and try to come teach the colonies a lesson. Even though it was technically a separate war, it was still part of the process of winning our freedom from England.

The tune for the current National Anthem comes from a British drinking song, To Anacreon in Heaven. My Country Tis of Thee has the same tune as the British National Anthem. Big difference, we didn’t alter the words to the anthem when we became a new country. We wrote a new one–with new words and music and befitted a new nation.

The Star Spangled Banner has only been the anthem for 81 years. For most of our history, from 1789 to 1931, Hail Columbia was the anthem. While I oppose changing the anthem again, if we did I’d rather we return to our tradition rather than the insipid America the Beautiful or God Bless America. Hail Columbia (which is wasted now as the vice president’s march) while possibly less inspiring sums up our history far better even than the Star Spangled Banner:

      Hail Columbia, happy land!
      Hail, ye heroes, heav’n-born band,
Who fought and bled in freedom’s cause,
Who fought and bled in freedom’s cause,
And when the storm of war was gone
Enjoy’d the peace your valor won.
      Let independence be our boast,
      Ever mindful what it cost;
      Ever grateful for the prize,
Let its altar reach the skies.

      Chorus
      Firm, united let us be,
      Rallying round our liberty,
As a band of brothers joined,
Peace and safety we shall find.

This is american history. It explains that we beat the world’s greatest military force (again), and firmly showed and established to the world we were not a nation to be trifled with or could be invaded. They burned our cities, D.C. included, and were off to do the same to Baltimore. The BRAVE stopped them. Our anthem is the the war of 1812. How can an american be ashamed of america’s history? Yes, Virginia , there is something the liberals and leftists like about America. It’s called the 1st Ammendment to the Constitution. It gives all the right to say anything they want and without fear of sometimes justly deserved punishment. They got it. We got it. All God’s chillun’s got it–here in America, at least.

The thing we have to focus on is getting these off-centered bird brains out of the public speaking venues. Tell MSNBC you don’t like some that ****, Call their sponsors and tell you won’t buy their products or services. Think about who you vote for and especially what their record shows about them.

After all, we don’t knowingly put pedophilic molestors in charge of day care, do we? Too many people were “bewitched, bothered, and bewildered” by obummer. Just think!? Such a novelty. A part black, part white man as president! How utterly fuzzy-wuzzy yum-yummy!

With promises for all and delivery to none, he is the quintessential politician: a raft of trash and garbage floating on a sea of morons who desperately want to believe his drivel. Well, the majority wanted him, and now they are paying for it. It’s just sad that the rest of us, who recognized him for the shyster SOB he is, have to suffer too.

So yes, Virginia, the Left loves the First Ammendment. As long as they are in control of “the press” and so on. They don’t think so much of it when somebody like Bill O’Reilly reams them from stem to stern. Oooohhh! You nasty boy. Shut up.

Like Hell I Will! Come and shut me up! How about double barrel 12 guage shotguns at 10 feet? Metaphorically, that is.
This country has survived worse than than the obummer, and we’ll survive him too. Use that First Ammendment to pursue our cause—when push comes to shove, most liberals will wilt away at the first sign on Honest-to-God personal danger (as in having their philosophical foundations shaken to the roots and core).

While Press or anyone else can dislike the National Anthem is fine with me (not really, but we do live in a free country). What bothers me though is that he’d use his microphone and try to incite others to reject the Anthem and call it “an abomination.” A little time in a country where he doesn’t bask in and relish his freedom and the fame that this country allowed him to have would probably recalibrate him.

How many can sing GRAND OPERA; should we get rid of it because it is not understood by many, or because is difficult to sing in most instances?
I think that a “Bill Press” should go to some other country and “press” for something equally stupid to rant upon, and see how far he gets………I would pay for him a first class ticket to anywhere he wants to go as long as he stays there for good.

    Where to start?

First “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “La Marseillaise” are the two most stirring, elevating and inspirational anthems in the world. (Not the most beautiful – that would be the “Austrian Hymn” by Franz Josef Haydn.) Strangely given the “Banner’s” origin, it’s quite dignified, but its range is more than one octave and THAT is the issue some people have with it. It is NOT difficult to sing – if you know how to sing. The problem here is not the song; it is that so many people CANNOT sing. If you can’t sing it, then don’t. Sing something else to develop your skill and then, having acquired more ability, try again.

“America the Beautiful” is OK. It’s attractive and generally inoffensive. It’s also just as Brit in origin as the present anthem. I like Ray Charles’s recording very much, but truthfully, find the song somewhat weak-kneed. No wonder so many libs prefer it.

“God Bless America” is OK, and good for a ball game or artless singers like Kate Smith for future use on John Batchelar’s propagandistic NeoCon radio program, but it is a pop song. It is NOT an anthem.

Lastly and apart from any musical consideration, there is no such country as “America”. America is a hemisphere. This country is “The United States OF America”. “America” is what FOREIGNERS – such as Russian Jewish songwriters who live in New York – call our country. We have distressingly succumbed to the habit.

The National Anthem is just fine, a historical heart felt patriotic song. It needs to be shown more respect the same as the United States Flag. Citizens are supposed to stand, remove their hat (men) place their right hand over their heart and face the flag when it is played. Soldiers in Uniform are to stand & salute along with veterans in or out of uniform who have the option to salute or place their hand over their heart. I salute. Those who speak of changing it are mostly liberal Anti-American socialist. I often wonder what form of socialism they want for the United States. Hitlers national socialist party (NAZI), USSR Union of Soviet Socialist Republic, Karl Marx Socialism, Joseph Stalin Socialism etc. All total failures. It occurs to me that most liberals just want to be in some click, group as most have no idea what the truth is our any understanding of politics. They just repeat the same hate and propaganda that the left spews on the liberal websites and Liberal Press. Atheist do not want to acknowledge GOD as if there is no GOD there is no accountability! On judgement “SURPRISE”! Obuma must be removed from office in November for the sake of America. We are to the point that America & Freedom may already be lost. Patriotic US Citizens need to band together, get active in local & national politics, write and call your representatives (that is OXYMORON as we are NOT represented by our representatives) Take action and do all you can to help save our wonderful country. GOD will not continue to bless a nation that continuously rejects him. Volunteer and let your voice be heard, help save America (United States of America)
BTW America is a Continent not a Hemisphere. North and South America.

“There exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.” –George Washington, First Inaugural Address, 1789

“There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.” –James Madison

I am relieved the man in the picture is not Alex Trebeck. Until now, I did not even know who Bill Press was. That said, I am glad I have never watched or listened to Bill Press and with remarks like that, I do not intend to.

    Ever.

When left-wing extremists like Bill Press spout off with their unpatriotic views, they give even more credibility to center or right of center conservative Americans. These are the people who actually appreciate the land and freedoms our forefathers and veterans have given us. Sometimes that cost was paid with their blood and lives. Anyone who does not understand that, or worse, has no sense of gratitude for that gift does not deserve to be called an American.

Can we set up a fund to send Bill Press and all his America-hating socialists, communists and faschists to their paradise on earth- Greece, N. Korea, Venezuela, Iran or Syria or even Europe? I am with Rep. Allen West when he said to the socialist Debbie W Scholtz to leave all the freedom-loving people alone and get out to their favorite socialist utopia. We must become like the patriots of 1776, when they got rid of the loyalists. Freedom and US ideals can not coexist with tyranny of the socialists and communists.

Pardon me, but is it not ” The Land of the Free ” fought for and won by our brave, which protects his right to criticize the Country he is supposed to be proud of?. It is very unfortunate that anyone can live in this Country, yet talk trash about it even though they have been granted the right to do so through our dead brave.
What ever happened to Loyalty, and has it been forgotten that this was the greatest Country in the world until the man who sits in the Presidents chair downgraded that standing?. I am proud to be American, I am proud of our Country, and although wars have been fought to retain our Country’s standing in the world, we will never be TRULY completely appreciated, as long as we have people such as this low life, America bashing, trash living here under our flag of freedom, while detesting who, and what we are. People such as this should be deported, and their Citizenship revoked, as they are shipped off to any Country which they feel they can actually be respectful of, loyal to, and proud to be a part of in it’s magnificence in their own minds.

    GOD BLESS THE USA,

My great grandfather. Patrick Cuddy, answered this 100 years ago last month in a letter that was reported on in a Bridgeport Connecticut Newspaper, The Herald, published May 12, 1912. Pat immigrated to this country around the age of 15 or 16 from County Leix , (called Queens at the time) Ireland and became a citizen as soon as he reached age 21 having then completed the required five years residency. He was elected to the Bridgeport Common Council and later named one of the Personal Tax Collectors for the city and was also a member of the Library Board. Although not mentioned, he was of course a Democrat being an Irish Catholic in 1912. The sentiments expressed might make that ambiguous today. The article is as follows:

    PATRICK CUDDY, A PATRIOT,
    FIGHTS FOR OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM.
Ex-Alderman, Now Personal Tax Collector, Defines His
Position in Accepting Invitation to Participate in
Memorial Day Exercises. His Blood is Red and He
Waxes Warm at Thought of Committee Not Placing
the Star-Spangled Banner on the Programme.
    HAS TRUE AMERICAN SPIRIT

Patrick Cuddy, one of the personal tax collectors, has notified Alderman MacFayden, Chairman of the Memorial Day committee, that he will take part in the parade and exercises Thursday, and his letter is worthy the careful study of every citizen who is proud of America and the men who fought in her wars. When Mr. Cuddy was a member of the board of aldermen he fought hard to have the people reject the proposition that all references to war be eliminated from the Star Spangled Banner. Mr. Cuddy is a patriot, and he dislikes to have any foreign power dictate to this country about its policies, and he is opposed to any person of foreign birth mutilating that inspiring song, “The Star Spangled Banner.” But read the letter he sent to alderman MacFayden in accepting the invitation to participate in the exercises on Memorial Day:

    “Bridgeport, May 21, 1912
    “Mr. Malcolm MacFayden,
“Chairman, Memorial Day Committee of the Common Council
“Dear Sir: – Your invitation to attend the Memorial Day celebration, May 30, received and thank you and the committee for the same. I will attend, with God’s help, because I believe that too much respect cannot be shown to those brave men now living who risked their lives for the preservation of the Union. And that too much honor cannot be displayed for those who willingly gave up their life in and for the cause.
“No doubt in the near future the last of the survivors of the civil war and the memory of their comrades who have gone before them should not pass away, but should be kept forever green in the minds and hearts of every true American citizen. I am pleased to know that you are chairman of the Memorial Day committee. I feel sanguine that no matter where you first saw the light you feel that this is your first country. I also feel that you and the members of the committee will see that America’s national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner,” will be assigned its proper place on the program.
“I have been interested in Memorial Day the past forty years. Is brings me to a feeling of sorrow mingled with pride — sorrow to think that my brother fell at Gettysburg, but proud to read that he carried that flag, which Francis Scott Key hoped would ‘continue to wave over a free’ and brave people — to within ten yards of the enemy’s trenches and, mortally wounded, raised it up on its staff and waved it in defiance in the face of the enemy.
“A nation’s song and a nation’s flag should be inseparable. What truer expression of that which says ‘Show me the man who writes a nation’s song and I care not who writes her history.’
“And I believe that the man who would not raise his voice against bogus substitutions or any attempt at its entire annihilation would stand calmly by and see his country’s flag insulted.
“Anglicized Americans are always pleased to note that the nation’s song is obliterated from the program on May 30. They are in full sympathy with Mr. Andrew Carnegie in his attempt to supplant it for his so-called “International Peace Hymn.” The members of the Grand Army have a record that the greatest men feel proud of. The Greek poet, Aeschylus, one of the greatest poets, statesmen, and scholars in ancient and modern history, when he felt his demise drawing near called his relatives and instructed them to inscribe on his monument these words:
    He was a soldier,
    And fought at Marathon
“He cast aside all his literary attainments and glorified only in the fact that he had served his country. How inspiring it would be to the sons of those veterans whose bones will before many years be consigned to Mother Earth, when visiting Mountain Grove, Park, St. Michael’s and other cemeteries, to pay deserving respect to the memory of their fathers, to see inscribed on their headstones, ‘He was a Soldier, and Fought at Pittsburgh Landing, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, Antietam, Gaines Mills or Gettysburg, the Decisive Battle of the Civil War’.”
“The Sunday Herald was the only paper that brought this matter before the reading public some time ago. And no matter what some few would say of that paper, it should be commended by all who are possessed of a true American spirit. Thanking you again for your invitation, I remain, Respectfully yours,
    “PROPATRIA”

Bill Press can’t even come up with an idea that’s less than 100 years old. It was wrong then and is still wrong now.

Certainly there are different types of intelligence, and Mr. Press’s seems to lend itself more to the instrumental than the literary. No wonder the awe inspiring representation of that dawn’s scene, captured so vividly in Mr. Key’s The Star Spangled Banner, escapes him.

I’m sorry it took me a day or so to see this story. But when I read it I was so incensed I had to write this Bill Press guy. I went to his website and sent this (happy reading):

    Hi,
I read this evening how you want to change the national anthem of the US, the wonderful song, The Star Spangled Banner. Look my friend, my ancestors (General Israel Putnam, who commanded the troops at the Battle of Bunker Hill in the Revolutionary War, Major -later Governor- Urban Woodbury of VT in the Civil War and others) fought for your freedom of speech to say the stupid things I read you said about this song, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. And I don’t!

I cannot believe that anyone would say this garbage you did about such a patriotic song. I think you need to read your history, so I’m taking you to school: The national anthem was written as a patriotic poem by a man who was being held captive by the British during what has been termed as America’s second war for independence (War of 1812 in case you forgot, sounds from your radio diatribe that you did). It speaks of bombs bursting in air because that is what Francis Scott Key saw as the battle unfolded. It tells the story of how a great nation’s flag and people survived and persevered through a monumental battle and turning point in our youthful nation’s history. It speaks of how we were able to make it through not only that battle, but the entire war which threatened our fledgling nation’s sovereignty. It celebrates that fact and all Americans should be proud of it.

‘Are we the only brave ones on the planet?’ you ask. Really? Do you have rotten cheese in between your ears? Typical liberal Democrat answer…put words in our mouths that aren’t there. What’s worse, you’re putting words in Key’s mouth and he’s been dead for, what 150 years? The song says, “Home of the brave” not home of the only brave people on Earth. Don’t be presumptuous because you disagree with something and create something that isn’t there. It’s disrespectful and proves your bias.

You are right, people will call you unpatriotic. I certainly do! How dare you make light of, and insult a national anthem that has represented this great nation for almost 100 years now?

By the way, anyone can sing the song, if they are taught right. Yes it is difficult, but if you start low, instead of high, you can sing it all the way through, whether you are a bass, baritone, or soprano voice. It’s not the song’s fault people are not taught how to sing it right. It might be our bleeding heart liberal school systems which now don’t even require the pledge of allegiance to be said anymore. When I was growing up, I was taught how to sing the anthem by my 1st grade music teacher for God’s sake.

You have some nerve calling that song stupid, when it represents a nation and flag for which hundreds of thousands have sacrificed or died for. My father served in the Army during the cold war period and nearly went to Vietnam to defend this country and its values and all you can do is spout your BS about, the song being an ‘abomination’. You are an abomination! It disgusts me to see liberal morons like yourself who feel it is perfectly okay to try and change everything great about this country.

Good God! When will you idiots ever give up and just accept that there are good things about this country and things which make us proud and stop trying to change everything about it that you don’t like? If America wasn’t the land of the free and home of the brave, why is it that so many people want to come here and make a new life? If we are such a horrible country, why is it that most nations look to American culture and products as an example? Yes we are not perfect, but we sure are better than most of the other countries out there in this world. If you think it’s so much better in another country why don’t you go there and live for a while and tell me how great places like the Dominican Republic, Chile, Cuba, South Africa, Kenya, and others are. I think you’ll find that they aren’t that great at all. I should know, I’ve worked in healthcare all my life and I’ve had patients and still have friends who’ve come here from those countries and told me what they are like. You wouldn’t like some of the stories I’ve been told. If you don’t like our national anthem and this country so much, why don’t you just move out of it? I’m sure you can enjoy yourself signing the Hymno Nacional Mexicano. I understand it’s a lot easier song to sing! Jerk! I’m embarrassed to have even heard of you and have to acknowledge that you are a fellow American.
    Sincerely,
    Pissed off Patriot
    -name deleted-

P.S. By the way, as a talk show host I can give you a damn sight more important things to talk about…like how Obama is ruining this country and trampling all over people’s religious freedoms (Obamacare contraception mandates in health insurance plans), freedoms of assembly (HR 347), right to speedy trial and due process (NDAA), right to choose/freedom of choice (Obamacare individual mandate to purchase a product/service of health insurance even if they don’t want it), etc, etc. Or maybe you could talk about the high gas prices Obama has done nothing about, or the higher unemployment rate than we’ve had for a record 40 months, or the fact that he’s the first president who has EVER presided over a decrease in our bond rating. But that would mean you actually would have to talk about the President in a negative way, who I see from your book title that you absolutely adore. Do you get a thrill up your leg when you hear him talk too?

Thanks for educating him, and refreshing our memories. I love the Star Spangled Banner. And yes, I can sing it, just as you suggest. Start on the right ‘key’ for your voice. Get a copy of it and practice it at home til you are comfortable with it. Flag Day is June 14th. Mr. Press, go online and read the history of Francis Scott Key, and the War of 1812. Learn WHAT the song is describing. Be damn thankful the British didn’t win, and the Country that was founded allows YOU to say things, even if they are stupid things. And you won’t be thrown in jail for saying them. How about that! And you even make money saying such things. Gee, isn’t this big, bad country really awful!
