State Agent Tells Preschooler She Can't Eat Home-packed Lunch

By Bobby Eberle

Talk about government run amok, get a load of this. A preschooler in North Carolina was told by a state official that the lunch that was packed by her mother was unacceptable, because it did not meet USDA guidelines. The official then made the preschooler purchase a lunch provided by the school, and the girl later went home with her uneaten sack lunch AND a bill for $1.25. Talk about Big Brother watching you!

As reported in the Carolina Journal Online, the girl's mother packed her a " turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice." However, this meal "did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day."

Lunch box inspection? Are you serious? I'm pretty sure there are better uses of state funds than inspecting preschoolers' lunch boxes.

The girl's mother -- who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation -- said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a "healthy lunch" would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.

"I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home," the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

The mother was angry for a number of reasons:

What got me so mad is, number one, don't tell my kid I'm not packing her lunch box properly," the girl's mother told CJ. "I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn't really care for vegetables."

When the girl came home with her lunch untouched, her mother wanted to know what she ate instead. Three chicken nuggets, the girl answered. Everything else on her cafeteria tray went to waste.

Fox News' Trace Galllagher also reported on the story of the state messing with the preschoolers lunch box:

According to the Fox report, school officials later apologized. Why? For a stupid "big brother" invasion of privacy? No. They apologized, because they now deem that the girls lunch did meet USDA requirements. So... the lunch had the government's blessing. Big deal. They should scrap this program and return the money to the taxpayers.

Please share this information with your friends and let us know what you think. Should the government (state, local, or federal) be inspecting children's lunch boxes?

My son was born in 1962.  When he was in grade school he brown-bagged his lunch along with most of the kids.  He asked his mother to make goat cheese sandwiches because the other kids wouldn’t steal them.  (His grandfather was from Norway and introduced him to Gjetost at an early age.)

I think that what they did was an invasion of privacy, not to mention searching without a warrant. They had no real reason to search her lunch box. That was her private property.I would seriously think about sueing the school and the state official.

YOU have got to be kidding me! If this is NOT a socialism like way of thinking…..I do not know what is! America is no longer the land of the FREE!

The ILLEGAL-ALIEN-In-Chief’s administration can’t be bothered with enforcing our immigration laws, but we have money for FOOD POLICE to conduct further Constitutional invasion of our privacy and rights?  Hope the parents go after both the school and the idiotic govt “official” (probably about a GS-5) that thinks he has the right to go in personal property.  GET A BACKBONE AMERICA!

And… if Obama gets re elected… next year, school children will be able to get their free cafeteria lunch with only a mark on their hand or their forehead… a state number… we think 666 in blue or black ink will match uniforms beautifully… parents signature in blood will be required… or seized…

I am beginning to think school lunches have become the vehicle to induce socialist drug dependency and behavioir control into our children’s diets. Ridalin, sedatives, birth control????? Some of these kids look dazed,,,, like my Dog after picking him up from the Kennel pumped up with doggie downers.

It’s George Orwell and 1984,,, 2 decades too late.

Perhaps there should be a select committee. no DEmocrats or trolls allowed, to daily collect a few approved school lunches, ship them to the White House, and have the royal couple taste them. Not their children, that would be inhumaane.

It is bad enough the government tries to stuff **** down the throats of adult Americans, now they are picking on 4 year olds.  How did these official know-it-alls know that perhaps the child may become sick from the school lunch.  They did not take anything into consideration except what they wanted.  Too bad the child did not throw-up on the official taking away her nutritious packed lunch.  Have you ever seen what they feed these kids? I have gone to Grandparent’s Day and ate lunch with my grandchild.  No wonder most of the lunch ends up in the garbage.  I’m not sure who makes these menus up, but I can assure you they do not eat what the kids are served.  I wonder if the official jerk goes around checking the teachers packed lunches.  I have seen them give children a super-sizes donut for breakfast.  Now that’s my kind of breakfast.  How nutritious is that?  I am guessing that Mrs. Obummer has something to do with this school lunch stuff, seeings how she is trying to get our country in shape.  Where is the common sense going?  We need someone in the White House who really cares about America.  Maybe one of Mr. Obummer’s zsars has started a new lunch program for school kids.  If we clean out the White House come the next election, maybe some of the ridiculous lunch rules will go out with the rest of the garbage.

A modification to my previous proposal.

All lunhes, or other meals, on Air Force One shall be picked up from local schools, with no advance notice. The only exemptions would be for meals for the crew. Should apply to Air Force Two as well.

I’m going to get hated for this, but didn’t they sign an agreement with the district that they would adhere to the strict guidelines?  If someone signs idiotic **** like that , they gave up the right to complain about it.  Personally, as a NON UNION school food service manager, I think it stinks what they did to the kid.  I watch daily as one little darling at my school brings the same things every day…a little debbie, fish crackers, bite sized snickers, koolaid pouch and a great big ol family bag of cheetos.  lol, lil dude is not fat.  He never eats any real food.  I have no right to interfere with what a parent sends.  The new guide lines are out from Washington, I wonder how many flunkies it took to come up with the stupidity they are forcing on cafeterias.  they made several new food groups and mandating larger portions.  Stop if I’m wrong on this …how do you combat obesity with larger portions? Yes they are vegetables and fruit.  We already serve them, fresh and canned!  Guess what USDA commodities are offering?  sucrose sweetened fruit  SUCROSE! artificial sweetener.  That’s insane.  We don’t need fat lab rats for kids.     I’m gonna retire before it all kicks in.   ONE AND DONE

I remember when I was in school in the early late 50′s early 60′s the government thought we weren’t getting enough milk in our school lunches because they thought some kids couldn’t afford it.  So they made it cheaper.  They sold those little cardboard cartons of milk, I think it was for a penny a piece so for a dime you could get 10 and have milk fights and put them under the school bus wheels so they would squash when the buses left.  Brillant policy, we really appreciated  our subsidized (someone else is paying for it) milk! I wonder how much time and money since then the government has wasted on these type of solutions to our preceived  inability to raise our families.

    Great comparison:
Lunch from Loving Mom who knows her daughter :” turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice.” (stuff she’ll eat)

Government mandated (probably) subsidized lunch: three chicken nuggets – the rest in the trash.

God’s simple solution:  The family -  under the guidance of His principles.

You know I wonder what all these capitalist would do if no one went out on election day to vote?  Lets think about it people what would anyone even be able to say about that yes it might sound dumb to some people but it is the same principle as Rosa Parks taking a stand on that bus she was on all those many years ago!  It wouldn’t make any but of a difference anyway because no one cares about the low man  on the totem pole!  Oh and for children to be forced to eat chicken nuggets for lunch that is just gross how does that even compare to any bit of nutrition?  OK people there are alot of us who dont even want to feed that garbage to our dogs but its ok to feed to our children?

CBS, in its typical biased reporting, is claiming Obama has a 50% approval rating again. If there is a shred of truth in that statistic that means 50% of the people in this country are okay with big daddy government controlling every aspect of their lives. We are being told what to breath , what to drink, what to eat, and eventually…what to think.

They told that little girl she couldn’t eat her lunch and forced her to eat chicken nuggets? Her lunch consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips. That certainly seems to be more nutritious than what she was forced to eat. She also was sent home with a bill for $1.25 for her parents to pay. Good thing we have “wide load” Michelle Obama telling us what to eat! Of course, she has to wipe the mayo off her fat lips from the cheese burger she just devoured!

America better wake up soon and stop the insanity of liberalism/socialism….and, yes, COMMUNISM. Catholics better understand that Obama is attacking the right to religious freedom. That seems a bit perplexing because he advocates Muslim beliefs which are incredibly restrictive and ridged. Jews better realize that a vote for Obama will slit their own throats! Look at his attitude toward Israel and their Prime Minister! Blacks vote for Obama despite the fact that unemployment is highest in their racial profile, have the highest level of people beneath the poor threshold, the most individuals in penal institutions, the highest drop-out rate and Obama talks a great line about how much he is doing for them.

CBS (Commie Broadcasting Stations) may have Obama at 50% but Gallup, which is left leaning, has Obama at 43%. Still that is far too high, indicating that there are too many ignorant people in this country who think they are entitled to something for nothing.

I am so glad the government is spending my hard-earned tax dollars on nonsense like this. We really need to be protected from ourselves, after all. Only the federal government knows best and the sooner we figure this out the better.

Did anyone else see the story about the federal agents shutting down the Amish farmer for selling **GASP!** raw, unpasteurized milk across state lines. Mind you, nobody had actually gotten sick from his milk and the consumers went out of state to get a product they felt was healthier for them than the mass-produced stuff from the store. Lucky for us our Uncle Sam was able to protect us and put this hardened criminal out of business.

I’m in my 70′s; I’m six-one, and I weigh 180 pounds, and I work out regularly at the gym.  During the war (WWll) my mother packed a lunch for me of fried-egg sandwiches and an apple–and some days I had nothing but lettuce and mayonaise and french fried potatoes.  I had a nickle for a bottle of milk.  This government is run a-muck.

What I don’t understand is when this story broke, the state, the district and the school system couldn’t really tell who enforced this. In other words, they were saying they didn’t know exactly who did this. Is this stupidity or what. I think I would be able to come up with a name immediately and exactly what the duty of the person taking the lunch away from the little girl, was and by what authority. Maybe the people in Washington would get more done if they didn’t try to get their hands in so many things. I can remember when I was young, I had to sit at the table until I ate everything on my plate. So I never made my kids do this. However, I made them try it and if they didn’t like it I didn’t force it on them. They ended up liking a lot of things when they got older. The more you make a child eat something, you are turning that child off to it for the rest of their lives.

I made fresh lunches for my kids growing up in Cupertino, CA. At the grade school level it was amazing how many stupid administrators and teachers there were. The hold-overs from days gone by were terrific; too many of the modern teachers were liberal nut-cases and too many of the young teachers were arrogant and incompetent. The food served at lunch met some government guideline, but most of it (fresh fruit and veggies) ended up in the garbage. Why? Because the small children won’t eat whole apples, raw carrot and celery sticks and the like. Stupid government. They also gave my children a test for ADD because their retention level was low. A simple education in biology would have solved the problem. Identical twins (according to our OBG) often develop more slowly because they came from one cell. Stupid Educators. Thomas Sowell has said: “Those who go into education in general are the ones who score lowest on their college entrance exams.” I concur. Thomas Jefferson was an advocate for public education, but what they don’t teach us is that he was strongly opposed to the state being involved. In his infinite wisdom he said, “If it is believed that these elementary schools will be better managed by the governor and council or any other general authority of the government, than by the parents within each ward, it is a belief against all experience.” Let’s take his comment to the next level. School administrators are just not the brightest folks – they need direction from the parents. But I’ll give them a break, for when asking our local superintendent how much time he spends with state and federal paperwork he replied, “All of it.” So how did our government get so screwed up? I am reminded of a quote from Pogo: “We have found the enemy and he is us.”
